ABC book describing all sorts of bugs and plants. Each letter describes something new. At the end of the book, all characters hide, and when Miss Spider enters, they all shout "Happy Birthday, Miss Spider!" All characters are flat because they are not described or talked about any more than once in

the book. Genre: Fantasy because most of the bugs are make believe and the fact that they organized a birthday party is not realistic.

"Miss Spider's Abc Book" is a beautifully illustrated book by David Kirk. In it, Miss Spider's insect friends, including ants, fireflies, moths, and ladybugs wait for her arrival at the surprise birthday party they have planned. As in his previous Miss Spider books, Kirk's vibrant art work steals

the show. The luminous colors and entertaining facial expressions make the creatures come alive on the page, resulting in a book that can be appreciated by both children and adults. The alphabet letters have some fancy detailing, but are still clear enough for children to identify.

David Kirk is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art and worked as a toy store owner and creator of hand-made toys before embarking on his career as a children's author/illustrator. "Miss Spider's Abc Book" is the fifth title in the series; while this particular book hasn't won any awards, People magazine named "Miss Spider's Wedding" to its list of "Top Ten Children's Books" 1994.

I would recommend this book to any child trying to learn his or her alphabet, because the book it very helpful and colorful. It is a great way for children to learn the pictures in the book by putting the letter with it.

David Kirk's picture book offers children a different way of learning the alphabet. The books main character is a spider, but the book also introduces other insects and other things that would involve spiders. The picture are big and vibrant. There are enough words to help young children follow
