Mary Azarian was commissioned by the state of Vermont to create an alphabet for elementary classrooms. Using her signature woodcut prints, she created 26 poster images of rural Vermont farm life, one for each letter of the alphabet. These are bold, striking prints in black on ecru paper with some

red as accent. I like this better than A Gardener's Alphabet which is in color but the images are not as eye-catching to my toddler who prefers the other.

Very stark, striking black and white prints. Each letter of the alphabet is described by something farm-related.

It look cool with the art only black and white with the letters are red. This kind of art is look like wood carves. The whole Alphabet related to a farm village.

Azarian made these woodcut prints for a classroom in rural Vermont. She wanted to make an alphabet series of things thing the student could relate to. The prints are great, and the pages of the book are so big! I actually though that the pages would be fun to hang up in a classroom before I read

that they were originally posters.

This book was great because not only does it help teach the alphabet, but the pictures are absolutly beautiful. They are made from wood-cuts, which compliments the simple country lifestyle they are used to depict.

A Farmer's Alphabet is a great book because it has a unique style and originality. This book is fun for children, and I think children would like it.

I loved this book. I agree with the author that it is important to expose children to more than "M is for McDonalds," especially if you are teaching in a rural community. It is nice to see the lives of people who are often looked down upon as backwards or out of touch celebrated. I also love the

simple and straight forward images that printing creates and I love the wood block prints. This book could be used to teach the alphabet or as a starting point for a lesson on printmaking.

ABC in the farming theme. Wonderful Black and White woodcuts that have an old-fashioned charm and rough detail.

This alphabet book has beautiful print illustrations that are very detailed. There is one word for every letter of the alphabet written largely around the large pictures. Each picture/word represents something that has to do with farming. This book would be a great way to have young children come

up with their own alphabet book that is themed.
