Still Sucks to Be Me picks up just after the first book ends. Mina Hamilton is now a vampire. She's just getting used to her new abilities, but her life/undeath is complete. She has her best friend, Serena, and her wonderful boyfriend, George. What more could a person ask for? It would have been

perfect if the Vampire Relocation Agency hadn't forced her family to fake their deaths and relocate to a teeny tiny city named Cartville in the middle of nowhere (also known as Louisiana). Now Mina is thrown into a completely different environment, without any support. Serena, while she knows Mina is alive, has to stay in California and George goes to reconnect with his parents in Brazil. (Gorgeous beach babes may or may not be involved.) At her new school, she's popular because she's from California, but that comes with a whole set of new problems, including a raging jealous rival and Cameron, a mysterious and sexy vampire. Plus a goth vampire wannabe is trying to kill her best friend. Can Mina's life suck any more?

Kimberly Pauley's Still Sucks to Be Me is just as charming, light hearted, and funny as its predecessor. It's completely different from most of the other vampire teen lit out there that focuses on forbidden relationships, tortured souls, and general gloom and doom. Stuff like that doesn't happen in real teens' lives. Mina is just a regular teenager, who now needs to drink blood and is pretty much immortal. But don't think that being a vampire is a picnic. You have to make sure not to get photographed, keep your strength in check, and keep your diet a secret. Mina is one of my favorite vampire heroines. Her observations and insights are funny as well as intelligent. I could never get bored reading from her point of view. I also really enjoyed her journey entries and the truth (or untruth) of vampire myths on the header of each chapter complete with cute drawings.

I love the new setting in Louisiana. It allows Mina to get used to a small town, where everyone knows everyone else's business. Louisiana also has a rich vampire history. In the novel, vampires dress in the goth style and sell vampire souvenirs because of that history. I like when vampire novels pay homage instead of ignoring the vast history of vampire literature. The new cast of characters is also enjoyable to read. Cameron is my favorite new character. He is mysterious and attractive, but not tortured and whiny like Angel or Edward. Throughout most of the story, the reader doesn't know what side he is on, lending to his complexity as a character. I almost hoped that George wouldn't come back to see where the relationship with Cameron would lead.

Still Sucks to Be Me is a unique teen vampire read for those that are sick and tired of the unrealistic drama of those typical vampire books. If there is going to be another book in the series, I hope it gets published faster because I can't wait!

I haven't read the first book but I love Mina. Sure some parts were missing but short details that can fill some blanks are provided here on the second book so I'm good. Have I mention that I love Mina? Well... she is hilarious, I love her sarcasm and her stubborn way of dealing with the changes in

her life, not only of the undead vampire part but also the moving to Cartville, (out of nowhere) Louisiana part since the vampire authorities forged their death. A necessary precaution yet Mina insists to be unnecessary. There is also the part that her boyfriend George decided to go to Brazil to look for his undead parents which means not only did Mina is far away from her best friend Serena, George might be prancing around Brazil not to just look for his parents but might also meet some Brazilian hottie.

Mina isn't depressed as what she believe she would since stuff at Cartville keeps her pretty occupied. The next door neighbor's son who seems to have a mean girl on his tail, a vampire hottie that is a member of some controversial vampire clan (that screams suspicious), parental comedies, teenage worries, powers that came along with being a vampire, etc. Mina found out that vampires like her and her mom who feed on animal blood has a very lovely nickname called the Pig Swigger or the Cullenist depending on who is saying it. And these stuff would be just boring without a mystery so of course our witty heroine is sitting on one. An unexpected visit from her best friend and a reappearance of her psycho enemy named raven from Book 1 and some very questionable stuff about Cameron and his clan. A quick read full of laugh out loud moments, sarcasm, wit.

Mina and her all vampire family are being relocated to Louisiana. Yep, Louisiana. And not New Orleans, but some small town where everything is southern hospitality and possibly the home of the world's most dangerous vampires. See Mina's dad's new job is what has brought them here and his research

is more than historical . But Mina does not know that and she mostly just missing her vamp boyfriend George and BFF Serena.

I enoyed this book as much as the first. The story is really developing nicely. The humor is great. I am really looking forward to Mina's next adventure.

This book gets a very non sucking 4 gnomes and a gnome hat out of 5 gnomes for more great humor and a new setting that's just as fun as the original.

I like the formatting of these books like how you see Mina's emails, text messages and journal entries throughout both of these books

and the truth and myths about vampires at the start of chapters. I think seeing this makes you picture the character even better.

This book continues Mina's story after she becomes a vampire and goes through the whole Vampire Relocation Agency process. Officially she is now dead and has to move to a very small town. She has to pretend her Dad is her brother and her Mom is her sister-in-law. That itself would be pretty weird not getting to refer to your parents as Mom and Dad in public.

Another great bit of information given is why the last name Smith, which is now Mina's last name, is so popular. Lots of vampires are given this name when they have to relocate.

The small town vampires and people you meet are very interesting. Some of the vampires of the Carter clan seem a bit hillbillyish (if that's a word). The people are also almost aggressively friendly like Eugenie and Grady her son who takes an immediate interest in Mina. Mina is popular in town because she's new and Grady takes an interest in her. Even the new vampire council they have to deal with is more easy going then the previous one.

There's another trio of love interests in this book. There's Grady who likes Mina a lot but has a psycho named Kacie who is obsessed with him and doesn't like other girls to talk to him. George is kind of flaky in this book, he goes to Brazil and doesn't contact Mina for quite a while. Cameron is the new love interest who "smells" very good to Mina but also happens to be a part of the Carter clan. Cameron is someone who I really want to know the whole story about. Not sure that Cameron is really a bad vampire or not because he does end up helping Mina so much. I have a feeling that he's pretty old in vampire years because he seems pretty powerful.

Mina picks up some cool vampire skills too. She's very good at shape shifting into other people and she has a knack for mesmerizing people. This learning how to mesmerize people leads her to get close to Cameron. Mesmerizing is also vital in this book and has possible implications for the future of the series.

The Carter Clan of vampires are up to bad stuff usually according to Dr. Jonas, the historian Mina's Dad works for. Jonas has a theory that the Carters and the Black Talon (a group of really bad vampires who kill humans for initiation into their group). Cameron was turned by the Carter clan so it is hard to know if he should be trusted. Mina still has an enemy out there, some craziness when Serena shows up and of course high school to deal with.

The conclusion has hard decisions being made and it looks like a new direction will be part of the future.

I kind of put off the sequel for fear of being let down - to me, Mina seemed like a one-book wonder and I wanted to remember her as the teenager with a biting sense of humor on the brink of turning vampire. I was also afraid that I'd have trouble with jumping back into Mina's world after being out

of it for so long.

Imagine my delight to see that Mina - though 100% vampire now - still is her rockin' snarky self! and provides such hilarious lists of sucky things as well as those debunked vampire myths with those adorable illustrations!

Still Sucks To Be Me is such a fun book, much like its predecessor, although the supporting cast did not seem to have much presence in this book. The new characters, especially the dreamboat Cameron and tightly-wound Kacie, proved to be quite the troublemakers in Mina's world! What is it with gorgeous boys who have mysterious pasts, smells all too delicious, and helps a girl out? Too bad Mina already has George - though a long-distance relationship was not how she pictured them to be!

Without question, Kimberly Pauley has created Mina with such spunk and lovability that I will not hesitate to pick up the next book (if there is to be one!) - Still Sucks To Be Me continues to not suck and rather demands to be enjoyed down to the last bite!

I really liked this book. It was a good sequel and Kimberly pauley did a good job not making the sequel suck. I liked the first one better though.

Mina the vampire has been relocated with her parents to the middle of nowhere. How will she deal with losing her friends and supposed boyfriend?

There was a lot of humor in this book, but my absolute favorite part are the drawings at the beginning of each chapter with little vampire facts. Very

funny!

The story of Mina continues, well, not exactly Mina Hamilton, but Mina Smith when she died, not exactly dies, dies, but more like undead. She has to leave her best friend in California and move to a middle of nowhere. She thinks they could have gone somewhere, but her dad found a "really great" job

in Cartville, the middle of nowhere. Her boyfriend George, goes to Brazil to be with his parents. In Cartville, Mina meets people like Cameron, another one like her, a vampire, but Raven is there, too, the goth girl and a follower of black talons. What is a black talon anyway and why is George or Selena not emailing or calling her?
In this fun, suspicious, fantasy fiction, Still Sucks To Be Me by Kimberly Pauley, Mina confesses her true feeling about most of everything. I love Mina, Cameron,George and Selena. They are just awesome. Even though there's no 3rd book, you'll wish there was more and when you start reading this book, you won't be able to put it down.

Dad can study with Dr. Jonas, a famous vampire historian. They end up moving to a small town in Louisianna called Cartville. Small town living can difficult for anyone, but trying to keep a huge secret like being a vampire is hard. Plus she isn't hearing from George and misses Serena. I was mostly happy with how things turned out although I still felt like she forgave George to easily. But overall I really enjoyed it and definitely hope there is another one in the works.
