Pilkey gets better with each book. He has hit on an elegant way to introduce kids to classic lit. Now, I might have chosen other books that kids get to earlier - the ones he has chosen so far are definitely high school - but he is is doing a superb job of pushing reading. In the fifth book in the

series he brings in pieces (and themes) of Lord of the Flies while at the same time appealing to a younger elementary audience through things like knock-knock jokes. And, for the cat lovers out there, there is a section at the end on the benefits of reading to cats.
