Another thunderous rumble cracked from above and we screeched to an aching halt, the tower resting upon its foundation in 2005. Scurrying down the rungs of metal treads, we raced for our cars and waiting parents as rain flooded the ground beneath our feet. “Why didn’t you guys just wait in the van like we told you?” my dad wanted to know. “Zach and Jillian wanted to see the Indian Tower, so we went over there. Before we knew it, the rain was coming down so hard. We just decided to stay under the tower where it was dry.” “Good idea, guys,” Uncle Brian said. “What’d you two think?” Just staring at one another, Jillian and Zach shook their heads and began to laugh. “I felt like we went back in time,” Zach said slyly. “Yeah,” Jillian began. “It was quite an adventure.” Had we gone back in time two hundred and sixty years? Had we met and befriended a girl living at the Whitefield House from Nazareth of 1746? Did Zach really give Sarah, fatally ill with smallpox, Pete the Mouse as a gift before she died?
