Description
Although the identity of the body buried in the famous ship-burial at Sutton Hoo has not been found, Sam Newton argues that King Raedwald is a possible and not unlikely candidate. This potted history of King Raedwald outlines what we know of his life, the kingdom he ruled, his links with early Christianity and traces the expansion of his power and influence beyond the Eastern Angles. Newton draws primarily on Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for references to this early 7th-century king.
