Iron Age, Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Normans to an analysis of the Domesday Book records, Warner's study compares favourably with Williamson's sister volume about Norfolk. Perhaps inevitably, given the glory of Sutton Hoo, the Anglo-Saxons get particular prominence in this journey but the Roman treasure of Mildenhall is also covered in detail.
