Well-researched and -organized survey of Jews' experiences in the Old West up until the 1910s. The authors write eloquently of the various economic, religious, and social issues facing pioneers (as well as those of just sheer survival). I do wish there were more variety in the pictures (most of

them are portraits of people who are mentioned in one place and then never again), but this combined with "We Lived Here Too" (edited by Irving Howe and Kenneth Libo) provides a very clear picture of once-overlooked history.
