I love this series by Lynette Eason. I was excited to receive a free copy of book 4 in the Elite Guardians series. Lynette is such a talented author. This book follows Haley in her search for her identity. Along the way, she meets up with Steven. He is your all-round good guy and helps Haley solve
Show More
the mystery of who wants her dead. I was not prepared for who is responsible for the attacks on Haley. I liked the grandfather and felt sorry for all the hardships he faced over the years.

This book had a lot less God than in other Eason books. In my opinion, it barely qualifies as Christian fiction. That said, it is a good, clean story full of suspense. I couldn't put down until I finished.

When I saw that Lynette Eason had another book coming out I knew I had to read it. This book did not disappoint me. It kept me in suspense from the beginning to the end. I can't decide if this book or the one previous is the best one in the series. They're both good. I loved the character of Haley
Show More
and Steven. Haley is one of the Elite Guardians and in this book she discovers something about her past as a child in Ireland. I kept turning the pages to see who was stalking her and wanted her dead. This book kept me guessing and boy was I surprised who it was. I can't say too much as I would spoil the story.
There is also a side story of a young boy, his mother and the boy's very ill brother that I enjoyed.

Chasing Secrets will be published August 2017. Thanks to Netgalley and Revell Books for providing me an ARC to read and review.

I always enjoy picking up a book by Lynette Eason and this one was no exception, although I will say that it is not one of my favorite books by her.

The pace was intense from the opening sentence and the author did a magnificent job of pulling the reader into the story. It seemed a bit convoluted at
Show More
times with all the different threads that existed and it kept me wondering how she was going to manage to pull it all together. And pull it together she did!

At times the story seemed to drag a bit and be repetitive but not to the extreme that it made me want to quit reading. Some of the characters seemed a little weak but the main characters were strong and likable. Overall another good book from this author and I look forward to reading more.

Having just finished another of the books in the Elite Guardians Series, I still have my heart in my throat, yes this is one book in an amazing series, and I have a sense of loss after turning the last page.
This is Haley/Aileen’s story and there is more than one story-taking place at the same
Show More
time, and there is a point when you think they connect.
What a roller coaster ride you are about to embark on as you turn that first page, and then you will be hooked all the way to the end, and then it will linger with you. We have it all with a story that crosses nations, to local gang violence, and heart warming love of God and showing it to those we encounter.
What sick individual, or group, would want to kill a whole family, including a baby, and will any of the members survive, or are they involved.
We also have a recently transferred Police Detective who is dealing with his own demons; Steven has yet to forgive the man responsible for the death of his brother, and now is home because his Dad is very ill. What do Haley and Steven have to do with each other, that will soon be very clear, and their paths kept intersecting.
Don’t miss this amazing book by Lynette Eason, you won’t regret it!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

Title: Chasing Secrets (Elite Guardians #4)
Author: Lynette Eason
Pages: 331 (ARC)
Year: 2017
My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.
Haley Callaghan is a body guard as well as the founder of a local teen center that helps underprivileged kids stay off the streets and out of trouble. After finishing her last
Show More
case, she heads for home only to realize she is being followed again. She soon discovers that a detective from Ireland has come to the States looking for her with an incredible story. She isn’t sure she believes what he tells her, but she also can’t ignore that it could be true. She also undertakes the protection of a poor family in a bad section of town when she is almost the victim of a mugging.
Haley also meets her friend Quinn’s new partner who has transferred from Chicago. Steve Rothman has been called home by his mother to help care for his dying father. Steve has avoided home as much as possible as the memories of the murder of his 12-year-old brother continue to plague him. He meets Haley and is fascinated by her spirit and grit. He can’t seem to stop her from invading his thoughts. He wants to get to know her better, but knows this isn’t the right time to get involved in a relationship. Tell that to his heart! He feels protective toward Haley even though he knows she can take care of herself as she is the victim of two drive-by shootings in one day and a death threat. Could these attempts on her life be connected to the detective from Ireland or are they related to her new client?
What I like about Ms. Eason’s books is they always have the element of faith woven into them; this book is no different. The characters not only talk about their faith, but they live it. It isn’t something they participate in on Sunday and then leave it at the door on the way out of church. I like the suspense and mystery too. The characters are easy to get to know and get involved with their lives. I always look forward to reading one of her stories because I get a good mystery and romance each and every time! I’m looking forward to her new series titled Blue Justice as I know there will be plenty of action and suspense.

This series just gets better and better. I love learning more each book about all the characters in the Elite Guardians. This one has Haley in it and we get to learn more of her background. There are many twists and turns through this story. I received this book through Revell for a fair and honest

opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I have really enjoyed this series about a group of bodyguards and how they do all they can to protect those in their charge. I like how they go the extra mile even when their own lives wind up in danger. The danger that Haley finds herself in is tied to an old case, but even so the danger is real
Show More
and relevant. The detective in charge, Steven steps in to help protect Haley and her client.
I enjoyed seeing peeks of the past as they worked together to find out who was behind everything and persevered throughout all that was thrown at them. A real page turner.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, the review is entirely my own.

Haley's comfortable life as a bodyguard gets flipped around when it becomes abundantly clear that she's the one being targeted. The timing couldn't be worse. She's happily engaged in volunteering at a local youth center; she's considering being interested in an attractive, funny detective; she's
Show More
encountered a youth who reminds her almost too much of her own past.
As usual, the ladies of Elite Guardians pull together, introducing two new members, and protecting Hayley so effectively that things take a turn none of them were expecting.
This is a sweeping story, featuring a domino effect that spans 25 years. Evil that stained lives thousands of miles away in Ireland travels to America, wreaking havoc as it goes. Evil's motivation? Greed.

The Elite Guardians series by Lynette Eason has been a reading rollercoaster ride, and Chasing Secrets, the final installment, ups the heart-racing experience. Threats come from every direction keeping the characters off-kilter as does the romance that the two mains were never expecting. This one
Show More
is a treat for fans of romantic suspense.

Haley Callaghan, the red-headed Irish-born member of the Elite Guardians, takes center stage. If you like tough, no-nonsence, take charge characters, Haley is the woman for you. But Haley has a soft side for the vulnerable, making this formidable bodyguard the perfect champion for the children she comes across. Detective Steven Rothwell is soon intrigued by and attracted to Haley, and together they face danger with determination. They make a great team in their investigation and in their relationship. Romance fans won’t be disappointed by that element to the novel. The story is composed of a number of seemingly unrelated crimes. Eason does a great job of keeping the reader guessing which direction the book is heading. Haley and Steven are both believers, but they struggle just like the rest of us. Themes of forgiveness, betrayal, and trust in God run throughout the book naturally; no preachiness here.

Emotional and action-packed, Chasing Secrets is a page-turner. I read this one in record time and was a bit sad that it and the series was finished. Chasing Secrets can be read as a standalone, but if you haven’t yet read any of the previous books, I suggest you get all four and plan a binge-read on the beach, porch, or poolside. You’ll be glad you did!

Recommended.

Audience: adults.

[Chasing Secrets] - Lynette Eason – 05/31/2017 – 3*

This is the latest entry in Eason’s “Elite Guardians” series, which follows the members of a skilled group of primarily female bodyguards. It focuses on Haley, an Irish-American bodyguard with a mysterious past. She meets Steven, a police
Show More
detective, who is the partner of the husband of one of her coworkers, and there is an instant attraction there. But there is a very long list of other things going on as well. There is a discovery by Haley of her long lost Irish family and the childhood tragedy that tore her from them. And the possible murderous repercussions of this discovery. And there is a poor teenager with an abusive family situation that Haley takes under her wing. And a group of kids at a teen center Haley works at who are preparing for a major dance competition. And Steven has a few issues of his own, with having just moved back to the area and taken a new job in order to be close to his parents while his dad has cancer treatments. And with the upcoming parole hearing for the drunken driver who killed his kid brother years ago.

The book is a fast-paced and enjoyable read, but overall, there are just too many balls in the air. I often found myself wondering where these people found the TIME to be attracted to each other, let alone act on, what with all the homicidal plots in the works. No story line is really fully developed as the reader is constantly jumping from one to the other.

Overall, a quick and entertaining story that could have been much more with some judicious trimming.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Whoo! That was an intense, action-packed end to the Elite Guardians series!

Over the course of the first three books in this series, you didn't see or hear much of Haley, and I think that's why I wasn't initially super interested in her story. But, of course, I had to finish the phenomenal series.
And I'm so glad I did!

We find out that Haley is so much more multifaceted than we thought. I immediately loved her character. She's so unique and complex. I loved her strength and independence, but also how those two character traits weren't taken too far, as I often find them to be in modern fiction. Steven was also an intriguing character. While I didn't like as much as some of the other male protagonists in this series, he was still great. I loved his protectiveness, and also, his interactions with Quinn were pretty awesome . . . Nobody can keep Quinn on his toes like this guy can.

The plot was just the right speed, keeping my interest, but still had slower scenes. While there were a few story issues I had, they weren't enough to diminish my enjoyment of this book. The MCs' character arcs were so good, and the ending totally catches you by surprise. It was fun to catch glimpses of previous main characters throughout, such as Olivia, Maddy, Quinn (who is still my favorite character), and Katie. The humor sprinkled throughout to lighten things up was spot on, and Eason's unique writing style I've come to love was perfect.

Overall, I really enjoyed this final installment on the Elite Guardians series! You won't want to miss it!

CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 16 for violence. There is quite a bit of action and peril, including gun fights, bombs, kidnappings, and rogue family members. There is also mild romance that is kept very clean and sweet.

Somehow, I mixed up the series order and ended up reading this one third rather than fourth as it falls in the series. It can be read that way, though there are some life happenings in lives that you won't necessarily know about and might surprise you.

Unfortunately, I find this to be somewhat
Show More
predictable. I knew who Aileen was going to end up being while reading the prologue. Though I didn't predict who would be behind the killings/attempted killings.

I also felt like there wasn't really a clear answer on the Irish company and who was going to take over running it--will it still be the men whose wives made bad choices in trying to protect what they felt their family deserves? Will Haley end up back in Ireland (somehow I don't see this happening)?
