Description

What do an ex-con, a former drug addict, a real estate broker, a college student and a married mother of two have in common?Nothing, or so I thought. Who would have imagined that God would make a prayer group as mismatched as ours the closest of friends? I almost didn't even go to the Chicago Women's Conference-after all, being thrown together with five hundred strangers wasn't exactly my "comfort zone." But something happened that weekend to make us realize we had to hang together, and the Yada Yada Prayer Group" was born! When I faced the biggest crisis of my life, God used my newfound Sisters to show me what it means to be just a sinner saved by grace.

Very readable Christian "hen" lit, that makes you think about your own relationship with God.

Plot Summary: What happens, When & Where, Central Characters, Major Conflicts
Jodi Baxter is unaware of how her life will change when she agrees to attend a women's conference in Downtown Chicago. She has been attending an "progressive" church, and even goes with an African American friend, but she
Show More
is unprepared for the diversity of "sisters" represented at the conference. She and Avis, her church buddy, are both put into a prayer group with a variety of women from different ethnicities and backgrounds. The women bond while praying, however, especially when one of them has to leave the conference because her son was shot. The other women rally around their new friend and continue to share prayer requests through e-mail and face to face meetings. Jodi especially needs their support when she goes through her own crisis a few months later.

Style Characterisics: Pacing, clarity, structure, narrative devices, etc.
Told entirely from Jodi's point of view. The large cast of supporting characters can be a little confusing, but as seen through Jodi's eyes it flows well, like someone getting to know one person at a time. The relationships are formed very quickly. A subtle attitude of "name it and claim it" theology comes through in some of the characters, but then again others are skeptical of this so it is unclear if the author is trying to push this view forward or not. The main point seems to be to show how the support of a loving Christian "sisterhood" can help people in times of crisis. And that we all have sin in our lives that we need to own up to and deal with, and that our Christian family can help us to do that.

How Good is it?
The characters are easy to relate to and the story whizzes by quickly, but the life lessons that Jodi learns give the reader something to ponder long after turning the last page.

Amazing book. So enjoyable and I've learned so much about how to include Christ in all parts of my life.

Although I thought from first look that this might be a good read for teens, it is actually a better book for an older crowd.Topics such as motherhood and mature Christian relationships are discussed. This is a funny and excellent read for 20 and 30 something mothers and Christian women. The humor
Show More
can be a little cliche at times, but women of the Christian faith will understand the humor.

This book took me completely by surprise. I'm a Christian, but haven't read too many Christian books. I picked this one up at my local library and fell in LOVE! The main character in this story reminds me of myself as a Christian, especially her thoughts in the sermons and even during praying. I
Show More
love that the whole group of women who pray in the story have different backgrounds and bring something different to the group. Great read! Read to read the other in the series.

An ex-con, a former addict, a college student, and a married mother of two, among others, meet at a women's conference and form the Yada Yada Prayer Group, which continues on through emails and meetings after the conference to help each other out with life's problems.

Pretty good. I thought that Jodi was a bit self righteous throughout the book as she worried about what other people thought and the grief she gave her husband over the beer he bought and put in their fridge. But God has a great way of waking us up in life to realize what is truly important and
Show More
Jodi was woken up harshly. I plan to read more of the Yada Yada Prayer Group books to see what else this group faces.

A diverse group of women come together to form an e-mail prayer group, jokingly referred to as the Yada Yada Prayer Group. But the women soon learn that they need to meet in person and, as they learn more about each of the members of the group, visit each other’s homes, and attend each other’s
Show More
church services, they become more and more involved in each other’s lives.

In this first book in the series, the often-judgmental Jodi Baxter takes center stage as a crisis in her life forces her to examine her attitudes.

With its strong characters and interesting premise, readers will find much to appreciate in this book.

I can't even rate this - it would be like rating a coloring book (although I do have some favorites of those and there is such a thing as a good one and everyone knows a bad one when they see one ) .

Reads too much like it was purposely written for a nascent Christian chick-lit market and released
Show More
before it had been revised enough.

Many female Christian readers drawn to this might enjoy Fannie Flagg - I think her books respect the reader more, especially in the way they employ humor and the way she develops the reader's relationship w her characters.

Yada Yada feels like a book that the author needed to write to get her sea legs .
