I received this as an ARC from LibraryThing and read it to give an honest review. This was a great addition to this series and I love reading about Prince Edward Island Shores!

Eli Ross left his home on Prince Edward Island and never looked back. He was too busy looking forward to his big dream of being an NHL star to dwell on the hurt he caused his family. Now more than a decade later he finds himself back and not with a penny to his name. He's a disgraced pro-athlete
Show More
with a massive debt to pay off and no way to do it. Eli finds his family more than happy to have him home, granted they don't know the full story, but they are just happy to have him back in the fold. The only person not overjoyed to see him is Violet. She came to town after Eli left and filled the void that he left. She's like family, but she's not so forgiving. She knows how hard it was on his mom and brothers. Eli and Violet keep finding themselves thrown together and before they know it they start opening up to each other. They are both harboring some big secrets, but if they realize that they can share the burden and ask God for forgiveness they can get the fresh start that they both desperately need. A Christian romance that is sure to delight. While it is the second in a series, it reads like a standalone novel.

The Last Way Home
Liz Johnson
ARC Review

In the second book of the Prince Edward Island Shores trilogy, Liz Johnson poignantly delivers a story of redemption, forgiveness and second chances. A story of beauty coming from broken pieces.

Violet Donaghy has been in Victoria by the Sea, PEI for a little
Show More
over a decade, and has been adopted into the Ross family. Mama Potts is not only her business partner, but a second mother. Oliver and Levi have become like little brothers to her – even though she is actually a year younger than Oliver. They became her family when she lost her own, though they do not know anything about her past.

Eleven years ago, Jason Ross left his wife and three sons and a whole lot of gambling debt and hard feelings and has not been heard from since. Very soon after, Eli Ross, the oldest brother, left Victoria-by-the-Sea to pursue a career in the NHL. Eli never looked back. Until now. Injured, penniless and desperate, Eli returns home.

The characters are delightful and believable, with genuine flaws that cause them issues. The theme of redemption and second chances is beautifully woven in, as is each character's struggle with their faith and understanding how God brought them to the place they are in. Wonderfully written, I can't wait to delve into the final book of the trilogy and see if youngest brother Levi, the epitome of the strong, silent type, finds a voice...

If you love hockey, pottery, redemption stories and/or PEI, you will enjoy this book.

I won this book in a giveaway. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

Wow! I cannot believe this was my first Liz Johnson read. I am so glad I started with The Last Way Home as I really loved
Show More
it. She has me hooked and I am excited to read more of her work.

This is actually book two in the series, but I had no issues reading this one without reading the first one.

This was a beautiful story around forgiveness, love, and new beginnings. Both of our characters are dealing with different issues and they have to come together in the end. I love having the sports romance added in as well with the NHL player.

Overall, this was a really good read and I plan to pick up more from this author.

Eli is a disgraced hockey player. Violet is a twenty-something potter who's been unofficially adopted by Eli's birth family. Eli returns home after an absence of more than ten years just as a fire destroys the shop that Violet and Eli's mother co-run. Although Eli is running from some dangerous
Show More
people, he chooses to put honour before self-interest and helps get the shop, and the community, back on its feet — and the fact that Violet is easy on the eyes couldn't be one of the reasons, could it?

This is a romance underlined with a redemption plot. Not my usual fare but it was competently done. I wish the author had made more of the PEI setting, though.

Can you go home again? Well, we are there as the famous NHL player son comes home! Will he be welcomed?

Set in Canada and in PEI, we are with Eli's Mom and her non-daughter Violet in their shop as they make pottery, and then, disaster comes.

This story has a lot of family dynamics and you are kept
Show More
guessing almost to the end, how things are going to turn out.

Yes, there is a strong theme of forgiveness, and a lot of it goes to forgiving oneself.

The author gives us a bit of sweet romance, along with family love, although there is one member of this family that is not there for the others, and the cause of much of the troubles and pain that exists!

This read quickly became a page turner, and you will be looking for answers! I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

Prince Edward Island, Canada

Eli Ross is returning home after eleven years of being a successful hockey player with the New York Rangers. He knows he wouldn't be welcomed back but he doesn't have a choice since he'd been rejected from the National Hockey League. Having nothing but a baggage of
Show More
secrets, Eli starts to build a life in his hometown where he has to earn back the trust from not only his family members' but also of a secretive girl, Violet.

This is the type of book you want to read on a hot summer day while experiencing a small town environment where you can stop by café, buy a clay pot in the Mama Pott's Red Clay Shoppe, and enjoy the taste of blueberry pancakes. I loved the journey between Eli and Violet, two lost souls who eventually found a way to heal their hearts.

Family bond is delivered exceptionally well throughout this book. The community involvement and their support underlines the importance of having a sense of belonging. Nicely written story with a relaxing tone and a dash of romance and hockey that takes place in a beautiful town of Victoria in Prince Edward Island.
If you're looking for summery beach read, this may be the perfect book for you.

Eli is forced to return home after leaving in anger 11 years ago in an argument with his brother. His budding NHL career is in shambles and shame. He has nowhere else to go. There is more to his story than is being told. Violet has become a very loved and important part of the family. She has
Show More
untold secrets too. She is very suspicious of him, his motives and possibly breaking his mother’s heart again. Neither believes they can be loved and forgiven because of their failures.
His big return home coincides with his mother’s and Violets beloved pottery business being destroyed by fire. As he steps in to help his family (who other than his mother or not very happy to see him) his and Violet’s relationship begins to grow.
This is such a beautiful story of forgiveness and healing, not only between family members but also with God. It isn’t an easy path the character’s move along but you can clearly see the Lord working in what they see as impossible situations to bring about His will.
I loved Eli’s personality, so fun loving, cheerful and compassionate; totally the opposite of Violet’s in the beginning. The story shows that no failure is so great that God cannot bring good and blessings out of it. That many times by caring the burden alone we keep the Lord from helping us and make our pain greater.
I love Ms. Johnson’s books and romance always is done in good taste. It is this time also but I found some the romantic moments and bit long and rather extreme in passion for my taste. I found myself skimming through those parts. All in all another great book from the author!
I received this book from LibraryThing and Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated are my own.

I LOVE second-chance stories especially when the setting is just as exciting as the characters. Prince Edward Island is a unique and fun setting. I enjoyed The Last Way Home even though it was somewhat predictable. I've read several of Liz Johnson's books and can say I've enjoyed them all.

This new book by Liz Johnson is a beautiful look at love and forgiveness and becoming whole again after dealing with pain and brokenness in life. She writes about a family that she's introduced to us before but this time she deals with two broken people who are keeping secrets and not admitting
Show More
that there is hope for change in their future. The whole story is tied together by two families who continue to forgive and love their children no matter what happened in the past.

Eli Ross left his family in Prince Edward Island over ten years earlier to join the NFL. He hadn't talked to his two brothers or his mother during the years he was gone. He became a big sports star in the NFL and lived the high life until suddenly he was let go by his team and disappeared into obscurity. Now he's come home. He knows that his family won't forgive him but he has nowhere else to go and he's in big trouble with some mob enforcers. He has no intention of sharing his secrets with his family or endangering their lives with his past mistakes. When he arrives home he meets Violet who works at the pottery shop with his mother and almost seems to be part of his family. She, too, is keeping secrets from her past because she feels that there is no way she can be forgiven for things that she's done. She knows the pain that Eli has caused his family so she is very unfriendly and unforgiving to him...until they begin to spend some time together and realize that they have both had difficult and hidden pasts and that there is hope for their futures. Will they be able to let go of their pasts and mend the broken pieces of their lives and or will their pasts continue to control their futures?

This story is a beautiful and well written look at how family and love can heal the past if people are only willing to accept it.

The Last Way Home by Liz Johnson

Eli Ross left Prince Edward Island to join the NFL. Ten years later he returns home hoping to make things right in his life and with his family. Violet Donaghy works for Eli's Mom in her ceramic shop, until the business has a terrible fire. She is skeptical of Eli
Show More
not trusting the man she feels deserted his family.

The two are thrown together due to circumstance. Slowly they begin to form a friendship. As time goes by secrets (each) are holding begin to surface. The secrets can either bring them together or tear them apart.

The story moves at a steady pace with likable characters and compelling plot. Eli is flawed but deserves happiness and inner peace. Violet needs to confront her past and allow others to be close to her. I wanted to see them together and be truly happy.

Overall I found The Last Way Home quite enjoyable with all the warm feelings of a sweet romance. I recommend to all.

I absolutely loved this story and I received this advanced reader for free. I voluntarily chose to review this and I've given it a 5* rating. This story grabbed me right away and kept me interested all the way through. This has two characters with wounds all the way through and are able to help
Show More
each other heal. I must say, I needed a hanky towards the end. Lots of feels and a few chuckles throughout. This is set to be out Aug 1, 2022.

Title: The Last Way Home (Prince Edward Island Shores #2)
Author: Liz Johnson
Pages: 352
Year: 2022
Publisher: Revell
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
The Last Way Home tells the story of two individuals whose lives have been shattered by unexpected obstacles. First, we meet Violet Donaghy who comes to
Show More
Prince Edward Island with a shattered heart. She is taught pottery making by a woman known as Mama Potts. Then there is Eli Ross who left the island to pursue his dream of playing in the NHL and now returns a broken man.
The Ross family has endured much heartache mainly from a father who had gambling problems and just disappeared from their lives. Mama Potts along with her other sons Oliver and Levy, have rebuilt their lives and are doing well. Eli comes home not knowing if they will accept him back into the fold or how he will make a living. All Ross knows is that time is not his friend, and he must make a huge amount of money to pay off a gambling debt.
Violet’s past is slowly revealed, and it draws readers into the plot. While working with Mama Potts, getting ready for the tourist season, their store has a devastating fire. Violet believes it is her fault and works hard to make things right by trying to get the store cleaned up and reopened. When time isn’t on her side, she realizes she needs a place to sell what she has salvaged and a way to make new pottery.
Together Violet and Eli just may find out how God can heal the deepest of heart wounds. The novel is quite good in pulling in the heart of the reader, and the ending is filled with hope. I enjoyed how the author brings in a couple of her other characters from the series she wrote titled, Prince Edward Island Dreams, which are thrilling tales! Liz Johnson does a remarkable job of creating tales with romance, mystery, and family. I look forward to her third book in the series to be released in summer 2023. You can read all her books as they are entertaining, compelling and at times humorous!

Looking for a hallmark story set in Canada? This has got a lovely prodigal-son-returns paired with enemies-to-lovers story rife with sweet moments and tension. Some throwbacks to the author's other PEI series that have me wanting to read them, too. It is a light and fun read, perfect to pick up for
Show More
sitting in the sun this summer, though you probably won't want to put it back down. Perhaps more detail in the kissing scenes than necessary, but it doesn't go beyond making out. Overt nods to Christianity and God's redemptive story without getting preachy at the reader. Can't wait for the next one in this trilogy of brothers.

I really enjoyed this story. I have read the first three in the Prince Edward Island series Liz Johnson wrote and the first book in this series. If you have not read the whole series starting with the Red Door Inn then I encourage you to. Johnson has a way of building community with her stories.

This story is no exception. Eli and Violet find cheerleaders in the most unusual places. I won't give too much away but it was good to visit characters from the other novels along the way this time. Eli's story was a great reminder that bad behavior has consequences but God is still fully in control. I loved how Eli and Violet's relationship flourished in the midst of two broken histories. God used their backstories to bring them together and bring healing for both of them in ways that were quite unexpected. I love redemption stories and this fit the bill beautifully! It has been delightful getting to know the Ross family and I look forward to the youngest brother, Levi's story in the next novel in the series.

I was excited to be part of this blog tour for Revell Publishing. I received the book for free but was asked only to read and give my honest opinion. It was a delightful read!

What a sweet romance! Felt invested in the characters from the start and can't wait for the next book.

This is a clean romance from this author which gives lots of description of the setting of Prince Edward Island. I enjoyed the book but there was a bit of sensual feelings in the book which made it not quite as Christian as I had thought it would be The characters weren't the perfect people and
Show More
there is hope in finding their way through life despite past mistakes.

I am not too big of a hockey fan but it was fine as it was written and the writing made hockey much more interesting than I expected.

There is healing, forgiving and life's hard issues.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing. All thoughts are my own.
