Brianne (“Bri”) Tucker has been an investigator with the St. Louis, Missouri Regional Bomb and Arson Unit for just four months; previously she had been a smokejumper in McCall, Idaho, although we don’t know at first why she changed jobs.

When Les Kavanaugh, a recently retired arson
Show More
investigator in St. Louis, dies in a house fire, the force is suspicious. Bri is assigned the case, but being relatively new, her boss asks her to work with a federal agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. ATF Special Agent Marc Davis, 35, is friendly and doesn’t try pull rank on her, but Bri bristles over what she feels is a lack of trust in her abilities. Making matters worse, she finds Agent Davis is extremely attractive, and he secretly shares similar thoughts about her. But he understands that she feels some resentment, so he tries to stay out of her way.

At first, the fire in which Les died seemed accidental, but a lot about it didn’t add up. In addition, Bri knew that Les - even though he was supposed to be retired - had been looking into arson cases that were never solved. Could someone have thought he was getting too close to resolving a case for comfort? Bri calls on Marc for more help, reasoning two heads were better than one (while she pretended it wasn’t because she was attracted to him), and the two dig deeper into some enigmatic clues left by Les.

Pretty soon Bri and Marc grow closer to each other. But the tension and danger escalate, and it is not clear who will survive and who won’t.

Evaluation: The author has multiple rewards for romance writing, but I wasn’t so taken by this book. It was a bit predictable, and the writing seemed to lack sophistication.

When arson investigator Les Kavanaugh dies in a fire in his home it seems strange, but nothing looks out of place, it may be accidental, but Arson investigator Bri Tucker can’t shake the feeling that something is off. It’s just that this man was a seasoned pro and her predecessor. Bri feels
Show More
more pressure to get it right when a new ATF Special Agent is assigned to the scene. She needs to convince agent Marc Davis to give her time to figure things out. Also there is a another problem about this death because Les was looking into a string of cases that appeared to be accidental only, they kept bothering him too. Hopefully Bri and Marc can find what connects them all without running out of time. One warning the opening chapter is scary and graphic and it sets the mood for the story. I loved the side stories which gave me time to catch my breath, just be prepared.

Into the Fire by Irene Hannon is a very good mystery. Bir Tucker is a fire investigator new to the job. Sh3e is called to a fire that killed a newly retired fire investigator. Bri"s boss decided to bring in an ATF investigator to help with the investigation. Bri was less than happy but soon learned
Show More
Marc Davis didn't want to take over the investigation, but help with it. It had a good plot and I didn't figure it out until the end. Another Irene Hannon book I enjoyed.

When arson investigator Bri Tucker is called to the scene of a fire which killed her predecessor, she cannot find any evidence of foul play; yet there are pieces to the puzzle which don't make sense. A mysterious note in his wallet leads her to several similar cases. Along with handsome ATF agent
Show More
Marc Davis, they reopen several closed cases while Bri seems to be plagued by a series of accidents. Are they just coincidental bad luck or is she in danger?

Both Bri and Marc have issues which make it difficult to open up to each other. As the attraction grows, they must also learn to trust God's timing rather than their own calendars.

This is a page turner with plenty of action and several plot twists. A great real for those who enjoy some clean romance with suspense.

Title: Into the Fire (Undaunted Courage Series #1)
Author: Irene Hannon
Pages: 400
Year: 2023
Publisher: Revell
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
What an exciting start to a brand-new series that has three siblings who are all adopted, two working in the law enforcement community and the other in education.
Into the Fire introduces us to Brianne Tucker who now works as a local fire investigator after being injured while working as a smoke jumper in Idaho. Brianne is a competent and persistent investigator who follows leads and seeks answers to help bring comfort to the victims’ families.
At a fire, she meets an ATF agent, Marc Davis, who she hopes will help her solve the puzzle to the many fires that have similar characteristics but no concrete proof of wrongdoing. While neither one of them is looking for a relationship, one begins to blossom, nonetheless. However, there is person after Brianne hoping to help deter her investigation or from connecting the dots and uncovering the culprit behind the fires.
Both Marc and Brianne have unique past experiences. Trust doesn’t come easy to either one of them, yet little by little they begin to open their hearts to each other. But romance is going to have to wait as the danger builds in the plot, and there is a culprit to apprehend.
The story was very intriguing and captivated my interest from the first page. I thought it was unique that Brianne and her siblings are adopted and how they make sure to get together every month as a family. Marc is a man who is smart, caring, and knows how to treat a woman with respect and care, which is shown in how he cares for his grandmother. The sparks fly between the two main characters quickly, but they are cautious and move slowly before making any sort of commitment to a relationship.
As I read the story, I thought I had figured out who the fire starter and murderer were, but I was wrong! Irene Hannon did an excellent job of building suspense and drawing me into the tale. I cannot wait until the second book comes out in 2024 where Brianne’s brother, Jack, will be the central character. Hats off to Irene Hannon for writing an exciting and wonderful story!

Won this from LibraryThing. This is book one of a series called Undaunted Courage

I have never read this author before but the cover caught my eye. I found the author's
writing interest and her main character interesting. Bri Tucker a brave and couragest
person is a arson investigator. She is strong
Show More
willed and will not back down on investication
puzzler that was left to her. With the help of ATF special Agent Marc Davis she will not
stop till she finds person who started the fire.

The book was interesting but I found it hard at times to follow with the switching from one
chapter to other the character changes.

This is a good summer beach read.

An interesting book about fire investigation. Bri Tucker is investigating the Fire that caused the death of Les Cavanaugh that she was scheduled to meet with. The ATF sends Marc Davis to assist in the investigation and sparks ignite between the two. Cavanaugh's death has several details that don't
Show More
jive with what is known about the man. His daughter found a cryptic note that she gives Bri with initials and dates that lead to other deaths by fire with suspicious details. Eventually Bri discovers who the victims were but is left trying to tie all the deaths together with the help of Marc.

INTO THE FIRE by Irene Hannon Book Review

A very riveting story packed full of mystery, intrigue, trauma, strong family relationships, and some romance. A book as hard to lay down as this one should appeal to many. Very well written and opening a whole fascinating storehouse of information in the
Show More
area of firefighting and investigations – very timely, I should think, given the devastation our country has suffered from fire this year.

Book 1 in the Undaunted Courage Series

When I picked up the mail the other day, I was thrilled to find “Into the Fire” had arrived. I couldn’t wait to dive into Irene Hannon’s latest offering, but knew that once I started, I’d need to have a stretch of time to read, because if it was
Show More
anything like her other suspense novels, I wouldn’t be putting it down until it was finished.

I was not disappointed. Though I did have to put it down a few times, due to life getting in the way, I also stayed up much later than normal a few nights in a row so I could find out what would happen next.

Bri Tucker is an arson investigator with an interesting history and not a little baggage. Marc Davis is an ATF special agent with his own complex history. They are teamed up to investigate a fire that took the life of a retired arson investigator who was still working, on his own time, some unresolved cases that bothered him. Bri’s gut tells her that this fire was not an accident, but there is nothing to suggest it was arson – except the very fact that an experienced fire investigator who was very careful about fire hazards, died in a fire in his own home.

Add in the strange things happening to Bri since she started the investigation – small annoyances and disturbing pranks that start to escalate, and Marc and Bri have to consider that the fire that took Les Kavanagh’s life must have been a result of him getting to close with one of the cases he was looking into. The more time Bri spends looking into it, the more the pranks escalate against her. But is it the arsonist or is it someone from her past?

Tightly woven plot mixes with three dimensional characters to create a story you can totally get lost in. Marc’s Nan and Bri’s siblings Jack and Cara show the intricacies of family connections. Faith, family and forgiveness, are themes explored as we journey with Marc and Bri through the investigation and the foibles of life with their families.

A satisfying read with a solid, believable conclusion that leaves the reader wanting more. I will be recommending it to my book club and am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The author has written a lot of books, sold a lot and received numerous awards. After reading “Into the Fire”, I can understand why. I really enjoyed this book. Admittedly romantic suspense novels have not been my favorite genre, but let’s give credit where due. This was fun!

Brianna (Bri) is
Show More
a former firefighter/smokejumper, forced by an injury to change careers and become an arson investigator. When she finds something not right about a house fire with a burned body, she is teamed up with Marc, an investigator with the ATF. Something clicks between them right away, but both have issues which have made them shy away from any further relations with the opposite sex. A move toward a relationship would also be hindered by their professional connection. So, although we readers suspect that love will conquer all, I think that we all want to find out how.

Aided by clues left by the victim of the fire, a retired investigator himself, Bri and Marc find a possible connection between the recent fatal fire and other deaths by fire with similar characteristics. Because those fires were some months apart and in different jurisdictions, their investigation runs into numerous snags, but this has them working together closely and, as time goes by, more warmly. Bri wakes up one morning to find all her tires slashed, then a large tree limb falls on her car, and finally shots are fired in her direction. Is this the work of a serial killer trying to scare her off the case? Or could it be an ex-boyfriend who turned out to have been a real jerk, and therefore have nothing to do with the case?

Things get more scary before the cases are resolved, with Bri facing almost certain death and Marc and Bri’s brother trying to figure out how to rescue her. There is a big surprise at the end; well, actually two surprises in a way. I won’t go any further and spoil it for a future reader.

Is the plot formulaic? Yes, I think so, but it is a good formula. We aren’t expecting another Tolstoy, just nice entertainment that leaves the reader feeling good at the end. I believe this book meets that standard. Crimes to solve, a love story, and plot twists along the way. What better way to spend a few evenings?

As usual this author offers a page turning, holding your breath, heart in your throat read, and she sure didn't disappoint with this one!

Was I surprised as the facts unfold, and we find out whom has been committing the murders, oh yes, never suspected!

This is Bri's story, an arson investigator, and
Show More
as the story opens one of their own has died and ATF has been called in, not happy, but surprised she likes Marc Davis!

We learn a lot about these folks live and what makes them tick, along with being gifted with a budding romance.

Bri walks with limp, but she goes about her job with all she has, she was previously a smoke jumper, she is one tough cookie. As we learn most of these two characters background, your respects and like goes up.

This is a great Christian Suspense read, now I can't wait for the next!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

I love the way this author crafts nail biting suspense, and this new series promises to be just as exciting as previous have been. With fast paced action and many twists and turns, this book easily held my attention. I did not find the plot to be predictable and was surprised many times! I also
Show More
really liked Bri and Marc and thought their chemistry was a perfect blend of romantic tension and realism. This author also does a great job of weaving spiritual truths into the suspense without being preachy. There was a fantastic blend of faith, romance, and mystery, and I found myself reading late into the night to figure out the villain. I can’t wait for the next one! Highly recommended!

I enjoyed the story of arson investigator Bri Tucker and ATF Special Agent Marc Davis as they worked to solve the mystery of the death of a colleague and the mystery of the cases he had been trying to tie together at the time of his death. This book falls under the category of Christian fiction,
Show More
but might be better described as clean fiction as the Christian element is light. The story is written is a way that held my attention, the motivation of the killer was more of a puzzle than the identity which was fairly obvious. Typically Irene Hannon writes in more red herrings with regard to the perpetrator, but the puzzle being the motivation worked well for this story.

It’s been a while since I’ve read Irene Hannon’s romantic suspense. Her books are always packed with suspense and action, fast-paced, easy to read, and filled with great characters. The author also includes the villain’s perspective, which adds another layer to the plot.
I enjoyed getting
Show More
to know Bri and Marc. They are a dynamite couple - one a fire investigator and the other an ATF agent. Both have broken pasts that need healing and extending of forgiveness. Though they don’t actually reach this by the end of the book, they are works in progress, which is refreshing and startlingly honest.
It’s definitely an enjoyable book for those who love romantic suspense.

Great introduction to a new suspense series. Hannon is always a favorite, and never disappoints.
LibraryThing member VeraGodley
Such an interesting book to read as it lets the reader peek into the intense and challenging world of fire investigators who look deeply into the bits and pieces left behind consuming fires and then decide if the fire is intentionally set by an arsonist or not. Then once it is determined that
Show More
perhaps an arsonist is responsible, they find the criminal and see that the laws of the justice system take care of the misdeeds.

As Bri begins her new job, she inherits the left overs of a retiree who was captivated by a series of cold cases in the hot world of arson crimes. Nagging thoughts of connection between a series of fires unproven as arson but that might be arson by the same arsonist snag Bri's attention as well.

A series of events, mishaps, and relationships have Bri going deeper and deeper and unknowingly into the world of an arsonist and murderer with deep relationship mental issues.

Excitement. Drama. Budding romance. Great sibling relationships. Top notch team work. All these elements plus great descriptions and conversations beautifully word-smithed by the author, Irene Hannon, make this a must read.

DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing's Revell Reads early reviewers program to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given. #IntotheFire

SIZZLING SUSPENSE AND ROMANCE!

Irene Hannon is back with a new series, and Into the Fire (Undaunted Courage Book #1) is sizzling suspense and romance! Be ready to put everything else on hold once you start reading this book. Hannon’s plot is an intricately woven mystery involving a killer whose
Show More
method of murder is so heinous that it proves to be almost impossible to solve. The criminal is cold, calculating, cunning, and charismatic, which allows them to hide in plain sight. Hannon has two Investigators on this case: Bri, a local Fire Investigator, and Marc, an ATF Special Agent. They first must learn to work together before they can accomplish anything. And, if solving multiple fire deaths is not challenging enough, Bri’s life is also threatened. Is it the same psycho or someone from her past? As the sparks are flying all around Marc and Bri, the sparks start flying between them, too. Hannon keeps your attention to the end with a stunning conclusion. Into the Fire is one of my favorite Irene Hannon books! I cannot wait to read more of this series.
