Description

"For four years, the courageous crew of the NSEA Protector-- 'Commannder Peter Quincy Taggart, ' 'Lt. Tawny Madison, ' and 'Dr. Lazarus'-- set off on thrilling and often dangerous missions in space-- and then their series was cancelled! Now, twenty years later, aliens under attack have mistaken the Galaxy Quest television transmissions for 'historical documents' and beamed up the crew of has-been actors to save the universe. With no script, no director and no clue, the actors must turn in the performances of their lives."--Container.

In the great debate about what is the best Star Trek film, more than a few fans would name Galaxy Quest. I know, I know--technically it's not Trek. But c'mon, in spirit? Well, mostly the Original Series, with perhaps a dollop of Next Generation. And it's a send up not just of the show but its fans,

but done with great affection. It's funny, it's a great cast, and I just love watching this--again and again. Guaranteed to put a smile on my face.

Substance: A hilarious send-up of SF-movie fandom. Plays on all the stereotypes, yet ultimately validates them as an expression of a noble yearning for meaning and adventure.
Style: Despite the utter implausibility of the story, the actors never breach the fourth-wall, which makes it work

magnificently.

Actors from a cheesy sci-fi show are taken into space.

Clever. It's more faithful to the spirit of Star Trek than half the actual Star Trek movies, despite the fact that most of its jokes are at Star Trek's expense.

2022 movie #8. 1999. We saw this in the theater when it opened and loved it. After seeing the documentary on it's making we had to see it again. The crew of a TV si-fi show get mistaken for real heroes by an alien race looking for help.
