I don't typically like books like this, with lots of testimonials and so much emphasis on stylistic graphics. I loved this one. The simple message is repeated in different ways, to make it stick and show the applicability across various dimensions of living. The rule is simple. Countdown and then

move. The rest will follow because of the way we're wired. There are plenty of good examples and foundation in the book. You should read it so take action. Order it or head to the bookstore. 5-4-3-2-1....

I really enjoyed the Five Second strategy. It’s almost like giving yourself a time out before doing a thing or only allowing 5 seconds to ponder an idea before you have a chance to chicken-out. As Mel stated; this concept isn’t new – but I am so pleased that it’s being revisited in this

book, full of contemporary situations and stories of overcoming stifling habits like fear and anxiety. Just think how many people might still be alive or free from incarceration if they had only taken the time to think? Like My Dad would say,”Think First”...SMILE!!!

This book could have been an email.

In all seriousness, I was a little underwhelmed with this book. I felt like Mel was trying to sell the method of the 5-Second Rule not only to me, the reader, but even herself. The plastered pages of social media posts in the book, from people using the method,

probably didn't help. It was way too "salesy" for me.

All that said, taken at face value, the method is one good tool to have in the box when trying to manage your thoughts. There are many other tools that produce similar outcomes, but this is one. I'm just not sure I would have written an entire book about it, although I guess the added revenue stream is probably nice. I'll definitely use the method where it fits, but it's not going to be the one thing that transforms my life as much as this book promises to do so.
