A charming and well illustrated book about a bear who wants his friends to wake him up for Christmas. They do wake him up on Christmas Eve to enjoy a wonderful day preparing for Christmas and enjoy it together before bear falls asleep for the rest of the winter. Very Cute!! I could use this book as
Show More
a spring board for holiday discussions, hibernating animals, and even friendship. Also contains a reference to the song "O Holy Night" and text with picture mentions Santa Claus. Grades-3

Sweet book about friendship. All of bears friends are trying to keep him awake for Christmas and all the festivities that will follow. Bear manages to stay awake, going to find a Chrstmas tree, having a great time, when all of his friends end up falling asleep! Santa comes while bear is awake and

in the morning when the friends awaken, they all open gifts and then Bear snuggles up with his new quilt and goes fast to sleep.

This book has very predictive text and is very fun to read with 3y to 5th grade. The children love to chant 'But the Bear Stays Up'. I highly recommend this as a unreligious Christmas favorite.

Bear wants to stay up because he has never seen Santa or Christmas because he is always hibernating. He stays up but his friends fall asleep. He makes surprises for all of them and Santa comes. He gets a big quilt for a present, best Christmas ever.

Rhyming-- Bear's friends don't want him to sleep through Christmas, his friends end up falling asleep and he makes presents for them. They all recieve presents and in the end Bears' friends give him a blanket so he can finally sleep.

Fans who first met Bear in "Bear Snores On" will love this rhyming holiday story where Bear's friends try to help him celebrate his first Christmas. Not only is this a fun story to read aloud, it is also a great conversation starter on hibernation. The tale is written in the same rhyming pattern as
Show More
Karma Wilson's other Bear books and beautifully illustrated by Jane Chapman.

This poetic narrative of a bear staing up for Christmas is simple and fun. The whole series is that way, not heavy on facts of nature, but still pretty well written.

I thought the book “Bear Stays Up For Christmas” was a great holiday book for children. The first reason I liked the story was because of the rhyming pattern. For example, “The day before Christmas,/ snuggled on the floor,/ Bear sleeps soundly/ with a great big snore.” This pattern
Show More
continues throughout the book and adds a very pleasant rhythmic flow that keeps the story going. In addition, the book repeats the line, “But the bear stays up” about every third page. This repetition is very beneficial to early readers and can make a read-aloud of the book interactive. Lastly, the story could also be an educational tool for a unit about animals. The book talks about the bear hibernating through the winter, and also references a mouse, a badger, a gopher, a mole, a raven, a hare, and more. The warm color scheme in the book sets the soft, happy, and cozy mood of the holiday season as the animals make a fire and decorate their Christmas tree. The main idea of the book is that spending time with family is always worth it, no matter what else you have to put aside.

I like this book because it has beautiful illustrations of the talking animals in a realistic setting. This is also another great book for beginning readers, since it uses repetition throughout the story. This book is great for introducing fantasy, since it is something that many students can
Show More
relate to, that being celebrating Christmas or any holiday. However, the fantasy side of the story is the talking animals.

Bear's friends are determined to keep Bear awake for Christmas! So they wake Bear up and have him help them find a Christmas tree, bake cakes, hang up stockings, and sing Christmas songs. Bear stays up -- by discovering that giving is one of the best Christmas presents!

A masterpiece. Bear books are good, but this is the best.

A cute little Christmas book reminiscent of The Night Before Christmas. Friends wake a hibernating bear so that they can spend Christmas together and try to keep him awake.

It's a cute poem, but not the best flow if you're picky about that sort of thing (I tend to be), but the illustrations are
Show More
lovely, especially with the little details like the feathers over Raven's beak, or Mole's over-sized burrowing feet.

I'm not familiar with "Bear" (the book series) but I happened to read this while standing in line at a book store and felt it would make a cute addition to my Christmas arrangements.

A very cute book to read to children at Christmas time. The illustrations are sweet and the rhyming text flows nicely. I am adding this to my “Must Read for Christmas Season”.

Bear has been hibernating with the start of winter but he wants to be awake for Christmas so his forest friends come to his den to awake and help to decorate for the holiday.

A cute little Christmas story.
