Summary:
Rabbit and Squirrel are neighbors who never talked to each other but when they notice damage done to their gardens they blame each other of doing the damage to their gardens. They say mean things and do mean things to each other. After they are forced to leave their gardens they still blame

each other.

Personal Reactions:
This book reminds me of acting first and thinking later. I think children and adults do this without realizing it. I think anyone of any age can relate to this book.
Classsroom Extension Ideas

1. I would have the students write about a time when they were blamed for doing something they did not do and how it made them feel.
2. I could have a class discussion on how to handle a situation like this and how to resolve the problem.

There was a squirrel named Squirrel, and a rabbit named Rabbit. They continuesly fought one another blaming each other for ruining the other's garden, but was it their garden to begin with, and will they ever get along?

Both squirrel and rabbit have their own gardens and live peacefully together until one day someone picked their vegetables. Both of them blame the other and start fighting. It turns out that it was the gardener who had the garden and she ran rabbit and squirrel off into the forest where they still

are fighting. This is a silly story about gardens it might be good to use to get children to eat vegetables.

There once was a rabbit who had a lovely garden of letace and carrots.
There once was a squirrel who had a lovely garden of peas and tomatoes.
Never did they speak UNTIL
One day someone destroyed their hard work.
Now, the rabbit blamed the squirrel and the squirrel blamed the rabbit.
And, then, a large,

booming voice of the gardener shouted "Get Out of Here You Pests!"

This is a charming tale with a serious message regarding the ownership of the earth.
