This counting book features one animal and one number per page. 1 rhinoceros horn, 7 black spots on a lady bug, and so forth, up to 20. The illustrations are striking with large margins and heavy black lines. At the end of the book, each animal featured is given a biography. These beautiful

illustrations give a sense of depth and class rarely found in children's books, with stylized but realistic depictions of animals.

outstanding picture book, counting to 20, broad range--simple text, bold colors and type; back pages give info on animals for older readers. OUTSTANDING.

This book has beautiful illustrations with bold black outlines framing luscious colorful animals. The book ends with paragraph descriptions of each animal.

My four-year old loves this book. Most of the counting books are pretty generic in their attention to numbers 1-10. However, with the variety of things to count and the large print and extra large numbers the book was easy to navigate. A must have in your library collection!

The crisp, colorful illustrations are what drives this unique counting book. Instead of counting quantities of animals, author Christopher Wormell counts numbers of items on (or associated with) animals (20 barnacle shells, 2 camel humps, 14 white rings on a lemur). This book appeals to a very

large audience and could easily be incorporated into science or math instruction.

A fantastic counting book of critters with teeth, tails, and tentacles.

I like the vibrant colors in the images and that the author/illustrator provide aspects in the drawings for kids to count. I also like that the story goes beyond the numbers by having kids identify the numbers within the images. The descriptions of the animals in the back of the book is good for

readers (including adults!) who need a challenge in the Spanish language.

An exceptional counting book that goes from 1 to 20 then creatively loops to 1 again. It features such gems as 16 catfish whiskers and 9 opossum babies! A neat feature of this book is that it shows the number very large as well as the spelling of the number (e.g. 12, twelve). The illustrations are

lino-cutting or wood engraving. They are masterful! I especially liked the use of tinting to create slight shadows that really bring the critters to life!
