This book is about a pigeon who sees no point in taking a bath. He doesn't get what the big idea is about bathing. He ends up taking a bath and loving it! It wasn't my favorite book.

This book would be good for reading with expression and predictions. I think students will like this book because they will relate to how the pigeon does not want to take a bath and enjoy his process of actually taking bath.

This newest Pigeon book is a wonderful take on the importance and joys of bathing.

The pigeon is dirty and needs a bath. He doesn't see the importance of it and continues to get dirtier. Maybe good for kids who refuse to bathe (but I think most kids love the bath until their teenage years). Not the greatest book. I wouldn't recommend.

The Pigeon Needs a Bath! by Mo Willems is the newest Pigeon book. The pigeon who embodies the best and worst of toddlerdom has decided he doesn't like to wash. It's up to the reader to encourage him to change his mind.

As with any toddler, the pigeon first gives all sorts of excuses and other
Show More
delaying tactics for not taking a bath. He's washed more recently than you think, he's not that dirty. Then comes the bath every excuse he gives is one I've heard from one or both of my kids: it's too hot, it's too cold, it's too soapy, not enough toys, too many toys, etc. etc.

While the books are made for children, they ring true for parents and guardians. Not even thinking about if either child would want to read the book (as the youngest is entering third grade now), my husband and I bought a copy for ourselves. Both kids, though, also read it and laughed at the Pigeon's current antics. And that speaks to the universality of the Pigeon's appeal.

Mo Willems' pigeon books are one of the best out there for young children. I enjoyed the humor in the story and how relatable the pigeon can be for other kids.

The Pigeon strikes again with his hilarity! In this book, the Pigeon does not want to take a bath, so he subsequently denies, rationalizes, begs, and pleads regarding the various reasons why he doesn't need to get clean. He hems and haws about actually stepping foot in the bathtub, fussing around
Show More
with the water temperature and whatnot, before finally realizing just how much he loves bath time!

Like with the other books in the Pigeon series, this book stands alone as a funny (and potentially interactive) book that kids will love to read again and again. (I read this with my 6-year-old babysitting charge who is not always the most attentive listener, and she adored it even though she's read/been read it before.) This title is also a good read if you have a little one who's resisting taking a bath - they might be more encouraged after they see the Pigeon's change of heart!

In true pigeon fashion, taking a bath turns into quite the ordeal! I love Mo Willems books and this is not exception. I love reading these books as much as students do. The straight-forward humor is refreshing. This is a great book for discussing predictions but also to use with students to discuss
Show More
doing things that may seem to be not fun or desirable until we try.

This modern fantasy tells the story of a pigeon who is very dirty and in desperate need of a bath. The pigeon doesn't think he needs a bath because it is 'unimportant'. He took a bath last month and assumes that it is enough. When he finally decides to take a bath, he struggles with the temperature
Show More
of the water and the amount of water. He then realizes how much fun washing and cleaning is. He doesn't even want to get out of the bathtub.

Another great Pigeon story from Mo Willems. This one is even more so interactive then "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and once again allows the reader to become part of the story. Back and sassy as ever the pigeon entertains readers throughout his odd adventures, this time not wanting to take
Show More
a bath. The illustration, also done by Willems, is colorful but cohesive and pulls the craziness of the pigeon and his story together. No inch of the page is left bare and the words are done in quote bubbles by the pigeon. Once again another small thing bringing the pigeon to life.
On a small note this book could encourage children about their hygiene and taking a bath. Many children do not like bath time like the pigeon and can be encouraged to love it as he ended up doing.

Fun and simple! Clearly for young readers since the text is concise and straight-forward. The artwork isn't overwhelming and shows how baths ARE important, even if you don't feel like you smell or are dirty, they are necessary to be clean! Saying that, this book shows that sometimes when we do
Show More
something we don't want to do, like taking a bath, we just need to make it fun!

This book is good to teach kids how you need to take a bath and take care of yourself. It also has a funny twist on it so it keeps the kids attention while they learn about staying clean.

This is a great entertaining book that draws students in immediately and allows for them to be conscious of the meaning of a story. The punctuation in this book is wonderful for students learning how to read with expression.

Like Don't Let Pigeon Drive the Bus, The Pigeon Needs a Bath! brings the audience or the readers right into the story. This book is great to read to a class because then you can really get the commentary between the pigeon and audience flowing. This book reveals that bath time is actually pretty
Show More
great which is something I think most kids can connect with. Over all this is just a fun and silly read. The Pigeon books can always be attached to a lesson on persuasive writing. In the books Pigeon is consistently trying to persuade the audience. Students could take on the character of the persuasive pigeon, or the bus driver, could even divide the class half and half with the "bus drivers" making declarations and the "pigeons" persuading against it... almost like a debate.

The Pigeon Needs a Bath! is a fun book that serves a dialog between the character and the narrator. The pigeon struggles and argues about taking a bath because it does not like baths. The pigeon discovers that baths aren't so bad after all. This book is very relate able to children as when i was a
Show More
child i didn't enjoy bath time as well. The story reveals that you can make the best of each situation even if its not what you want. It is an interesting take on narration and also creates a dialog with the reader or children listening to the book so it becomes very interactive. The Illustrator uses bold shapes, animated text, and color blocking to create a very interesting and visually stimulating pictures to accompany the story.

How on earth does Willems keep it up? Even though the ending is predictable (at least to parents), and even though most of our kids have sassed most of these same complaints to us, this is still a fresh and creative story. Love the flies!

The Pigeon needs a bath! Except, the Pigeon's not so sure about that. Besides, he took a bath last month! Maybe. It's going to take some serious convincing to get the Pigeon to take the plunge.

My mother expressed her hatred of Mo Willem's pigeon and knuffle bunny books, so I felt compelled to read one I hadn't yet, simply to remind myself why I enjoy them.
These books are for the young (or young at heart) who can either thoroughly interact with their reading, or create an imaginary
Show More
audience that does do that.
It's just good fun!

No one at my house is currently an Early Reader. But I always look for Willems' books at the library, and check them out if they're in (they don't stay on the shelves long at all). I've now written about forty-seven versions of this but one more can't hurt: they're funny, the drawings are
Show More
incredibly expressive, and I love Willems. And so do the kids.

Library copy.

The narrator knows the pigeon needs a bath....but the pigeon needs some convincing! Classic Mo Willems book that interacts with the audience and insights lots of laughs

The Pigeon Needs a Bath is a great story about getting a pigeon to bathe. At first, like most children, the pigeon refuses to get in the tub. He says that he feels clean and that life is short and he shouldn't waste in on taking a bath. He makes up excuses as to why he shouldn't bathe, but when he
Show More
finally gets in the tub, he realizes that baths aren't so bad. He is having so much fun in the tub that he stays in it for ten hours! This story shows children that as much as you don't want to do something, it will always turn out ok in the end. As a teaching idea, each child could write a few sentences about their favorite part of bath time.

The Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Willems stays true to the fun that is the Pigeon. While readers already know that the Pigeon is a stinker, now he really stinks! The reader must convince the Pigeon to take a bath and see how it turns out for him. When he is in the bathtub, pay close attention to see
Show More
some familiar friends!
