This is a great book for visualizing. I use it as an introduction to a shapes unit. The students guess what the pictures are and then go back and work individually to create their own page for a class book. Great for basic shapes!

Super vibrant and colorful pictures. I love the simplicity of this book. It really gets the point across with learning shapes.

Another popular Eric Carle book Brown Bear, Brown, Bear, What Do You See? introduces children to colors through his vibrant illustrations and repetition. For each page, Carle fills it with a different animal made of a different color, while repeating the line on the page before the revealing of the

animal and the page of. This repeating verses allow the child to reinforce the learning of the concept of colors throughout the book.

Dayle Ann Dodds The Shape of Things also uses creative illustrations and repetition to teach children the concept of shapes. Dodds uses the first page to introduce the shape with a rhyming verse, then the coinciding pages contains a picture of the shape in an object the child will recognize (for example, rectangle on the first page then train cars on the opposite page. She also uses borders along the pages containing the shapes being introduced and the last two pages are filled with different types of shapes for the child to find. Both of these books are fun and colorful for an introduction to colors and shapes.

This book about beginning shapes helps students see the shapes in every day things such as houses, boats, animals and more. The illustrations encourage young learners to see shapes everywhere and ask them to find their own shapes as they look around.
