I was ready to love this book. I've read and reread some of Lisa Tawn Bergren's books for grown-ups. The book has a great idea, to teach about love. But the teaching aspect overwhelmed it, and the story was sacrificed in favor of lessons. My husband, after reading this to our 3 year old daughter,

say he felt the book was "trying too hard." This book could be improved by trying to say less, and have more story. Or make it longer and for older kids -there's only so much you can communicate in a board book for small children. That said, our daughter liked it well enough. The illustrations were charming, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of this family of polar bears by the illustrator.

As with the other books in the series, the pictures are stunning - rich, warm colors on some pages alternating with bright, cool colors on others. But unlike the other books in the series, this one is very preachy and the Christian vibe is overwhelming. Not to say that makes it a bad book, readers

should just be aware that this one differs in that respect from some of the others in the series.

“God Gave Us Love” is a wonderful story to share with your child or grandchild, and it is a perfect book to read for a bedtime story on a cold winter night. The illustrations are very well done, and match the text perfectly. While love is an integral aspect of the world’s major religions,
Show More
this book describes love from the Christian perspective.

A cute book, but more in-depth then I thought the board book would be. Still cute, with great illustrations and a great story. Would recommend as a good gift for older toddlers who are still into board books.

I received this board book as a part of the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program. It is a 2011 reprint of the 2009 regular hardcover release.

This is a Christian book that speaks softly of the love of God and Jesus. It answers a couple of questions that many church going 3 to 6 year olds ask, and it

fully explains agape love (without naming it).

Laura J. Bryant's pictures are AMAZINGLY good. There are quite a few polar bear kids books out there, and this one is near the top with its cute art.

My three year old was enraptured by it, and almost fell asleep by the end of it. This doesn't happen very often.

This was a pleasing to look at, pleasing to read book that packs alot of learning about love in to its few short pages. I liked 1) the fact that Grandpa was doing the teaching, 2) that Grandpa was fishing, playing, resting and doing all sorts of activities with his grandchild, while teaching him

about love, 3) that the pages were bright and beautiful and fun to look at, and 4) that the explanation of love was given in a way that a child could understand. I felt both Lisa Bergren and Laura Bryant did an excellent job! I am looking forward to reading this with my grandchildren. I thank LibraryThing for sending me this book to review.

In God Gave Us Love by Lisa Tawn Bergren, Little Cub is on a fishing adventure when the interruptive otters scare the fish away, leading Little Cub to admit that liking the otters is sometimes hard. Grampa gently reminds Little Cub that spending time together and sharing love is far more important
Show More
than catching fish. Thus begins Little Cub's lesson about God's great love and the different ways it is displayed in relationships.

God Gave Us Love is a super-cute book with an important message about God's love and the love we should have for others. Even as an adult, I could relate to Little Cub's ambivalence towards the otters. The message unconditional love shines through as Grampa and Little Cub discuss the love that God gives us and why He gives it to us. Although the book appears durable for children of younger ages, I recommend this book for children five or older. Younger children will enjoy the pictures, but I'm not sure if they would understand all of the concepts. My little one won't be here to test it out for a few more months, but I look forward to being able to share this story with my child when he or she arrives.

I have a 4 year old son and this book is perfect for this age. It is a sweet book following the previously published "God Gave Us You." Very simple, talking about God's gift of love. Recommended for preschool age.

I enjoyed this Christian Children's book and I received it as a gift. Another great one in this series. I've voluntarily chose to review this and I've given it a 5* rating. I'm love the way she shares the meanings in ways a child can understand. Want to read and share more in this series.
