The story is very compelling. It is a story about survival against the odds, but it also about finding healing after tragedy and explores how we deal with guilt or not deal with as is the case with one of the characters.
The prose is not the best I have ever read but the plot moved along at a nice
Show More
pace and the characters were so well developed it made up for the prose.

I would recommend this book to people who like Colleen Coble and Nora Roberts.

A page turning read about two strangers who survive a plan crash in the Uinta Mountains during the dead of winter. Days turn into weeks turn into months as they struggle to survive the bitter cold temperatures, find food and keep hope alive. Although I suspected the ending about half way through
Show More
the book, it didn’t take away from the suspenseful story or make it any less heart wrenching. The book is a tender story about love, forgiveness and hope.

The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin has all the characteristics of a great summer read including disaster, romance, and a twist ending. Although I had the "twist ending" figured out a quarter of the way through the book, it was still a fun way to spend a few hours.

This fast-paced book is a

quick read and great for anyone who likes to mix adventure with romance.

Beautifully written, this is the story of two people stranded on a mountain after a plane crash. Ben is a doctor who records messages to his wife about his experiences. Ashley is a writer who was on her way to her wedding. The story of the relationship between Ben and his wife is interwoven between

This is a story of survival and so much more in my opinion. This is my first book by this author and one of the best I have read this year. Several twists at the end for the reader as well. Just an all around good read.

This is a story that unfolds another story and yet another story. I still cannot believe the ease with which the author was able to pull off the ending. I have read every book by this author and I think this is my favorite. This novel takes us back to the "voice" of the author again. THIS IS A MUST

READ!!! I couldn't put it down - read it in 1 day. Interesting, complex, cinematic, redemptive.

My first thought of this book was that I liked it. The tempo was just right, not to slow but not too fast. However, I think what I liked most was it has a Hero.
The lead character is a Macgyver. Dr. Ben Payne (a touch of whimsy) is smart, good-looking, compassionate, with some impulsiveness thrown

in, Sport Medical Doctor.
His partner in this adventure is Ashley Knox, an attractive, successful journalist and on the way to her wedding rehearsal dinner.
As a snowstorm cancels the flights out of Salt Lake City, these two travelers end up chartering a flight to Denver to get them out of the storm’s path. Grover, the pilot, and his dog load up to fly the travelers to Denver. Grover has a heart attack and they crash in the snow-covered mountains. Ben with broken ribs, Ashley’s leg fractured and with the dog, the adventure begins in the below freezing temperature for weeks. Ben journals to his wife every night with a recorder and we get a sense that is something not right but we do not know what it is. The ending is a surprise ending and we do not even see it coming.

At best, this story was unbelieveable. Seemed like the author was trying to be Nicholas Sparks. Pretty sappy story.

I just LOVE Charles Martin. His books are so amazing. I finished this one (as I usually do his others) in 2 days. Great story, great message - made me cry. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!

I enjoyed this book, but not a "must-read" for me.

After reading ll the 5-star reviews, I feel bad only giving it 2 1/2 stars. I picked this book up after seeing that it is being made into a movie with Kate Winslet and Idris Elba (I always want to read the book before the movie), but I was surprised at how much of a "chick-lit" book it is. I found

myself rolling my eyes at some passages, pretty sappy. I didn't see the ending coming, though. Won't be reading more of his books.

Two strangers, Ben and Ashley, crashed and stranded in the middle of nowhere. Both grew a tight bond between each other and their conversations were either deep and sensitive or humored and witty. Ashley was engaged but missed her wedding because of the accident. Ben was the type of person that
Show More
woman would search high and low for but rarely find. Yet, there was a mystery about him. Through his stories and words it was clear how his wife and him were destined to be together, but he’s separated from his wife. Why? What happened? He refused to reveal any details. It was all a mystery until the author revealed everything at the end of the book.

It touched my heart and made me weep a bit. This story is about forgiveness, love, hope, and life renewal.

I shouldn't even elude to plot in this review of The Mountain Between Us. You will hate me if I give anything away, even if I elude to the fact that there is something to give away.

Oh dear. I better start over. Perhaps I should just warn you to completely skip over this entire review and read the
Show More
book if the blurb on the back appeals to you. It's a book that somehow will work for both male and female (and how often do you find a book that does that?) and it's a book that is both plot driven and also manages to get inside people's emotional heads.

Okay, that's enough. Give it a read.

I've probably already said too much.

The Mountain Between Us is not your typical love story. Ben and Ashley got to know each other because they really had no other option and as soon as their snow capped journey, or battler to say the least, was over the two went their separate ways. The two find their way back together months later
Show More
and decided to get to know each other a little more not just because they have to, but because they want to.

Wow! What a wonderful read! This was my first time reading a Charles Martin novel and this book consumed me early on. The Mountain Between Us is on my list of favorite books.

Dr. Ben Payne, an orthopedic surgeon, leaving a medical convention, is waiting at Salt Lake City Airport for a flight east.
The flight is on hold because of a faulty de-icer and an anticipated snow storm. Ben hires a chartered plane to take him to Denver to catch a connecting flight. Grover, the pilot, says he can take one more passenger and Ben offers the seat to Ashely Knox, a journalist, flying East for her wedding. And then, a tragedy occurs. Grover has a heart attack and the chartered plane crashes into a wintry wilderness and the fight for survival begins as Ben and Ashley struggle to overcome a myriad of obstacles.

You won't soon forget these characters, realistic, but complex. I loved the splashes of humor, in the dialogue, spread throughout. The author used beautiful descriptive writing with vivid imagery of scenes that really added to this emotional journey with a poignant ending that took me by surprise. The storyline has a rich blend of love, survival, faith, and endurance. It will touch your heart as it delivers in every way. I highly recommend with a 5 star rating.

This story took my breath away: from attempting to survive a plane crash in extreme snowing conditions at over 11,000 feet, in which two newly acquainted people foster a bond to make it out of there --- to the devotion of the male character to his wife, despite being stranded with a beautiful woman
Show More
in the middle of nowhere, and behaving like a gentleman throughout. I read the book with bated breath, so well written was it, that at every setback, you really never knew if either of the characters was going to make it. So caught up was I that I didn't see it coming -- the twist in the tale. It's a story about love, and about survival. Most importantly, it's about a love that survives.

This was my first Charles Martin book. A colleague recommended him and I am very glad I took her advice. I will definitely be looking for more of his work. This reminded me a lot of Gary Paulsen's children's book Hatchet, with some more adult themes thrown in. The survival/adventure aspects of the

story were gripping and the romance was touching and heart breaking. Looking forward to more!

Charles Martin did it again! This book is filled with passion. Deep beautiful and unrelenting passion. The story of Ben & Rachel is told from Ben's POV. Very powerful, very insightful, and very much in love. Ben & Ashley's journey is also just as moving. Even in the midst of physical and emotional

pain, they kept on going, not knowing what lay before them. Love is more than just "I Love You" and this book emphasizes that.

MY RATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

SUMMARY
A chance meeting at the Salt Lake City airport, and a canceled flight all lead to a small charter plane crashing in the remote Utah wilderness. It's January. The pilot,
Show More
Grover has had a heart attack. The passengers Ben Payne, a doctor from Jacksonville Florida and Ashley Knox, a writer from Atlanta, barely survived. He was headed home from a medical conference and she was headed to her much anticipated wedding to Vince. Ben has broken ribs, a collapsed lung and can barely breathe, and Ashley, full of cut and scrapes, has a badly broken leg. There is no way she can walk. They are in the middle of nowhere and no one knows where they are. There is no cell phone service and no crash position indicator. To survive they will have to make it out on their own.

Ben, has to figure out how to get he and Ashley off the mountain and out of the wilderness. Although, Ben is separated from his wife Rachel, he faithfully uses a voice recorder to capture his feelings, thoughts and experiences for her. Ashley is fascinated by Ben's faithfulness to his wife despite their separation. Ben, Ashley and even Napoleon, Grovers dog who also survive the crash, have to battle the freezing temperatures, treacherous terrain, hunt for food, and have the will to survive a physical, as well as emotional maelstrom.

REVIEW
CHARLES MARTIN is one of my favorite authors and he has a way of bringing characters to life, and making you feel what they feel. Both Ashley and Ben are strong characters and full of emotion. Ben's emotions, his fear and desperation, are eloquently captured by the voice recorder for his wife. Despite her tremendous pain, Ashley uses humor to effectively lighten up the intense quest for survival. You can't help falling in love with all the characters in this book. Even Napoleon's fight for survival captures your heart.

Not only does THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US capture an intense survival adventure but also includes Ben's flashbacks to his life story. Ben shares about growing up with a hard driving father, who woke at 4am for training runs on the beach. He shares about seeing Rachel in high school on the track for the first time, followed by their courtship and marriage. All of this combines to give the story immense depth and make it interestingly complex and emotionally charged.

The settings are vividly described. From the freezing Utah mountain terrain, full of snow covered birch and evergreen trees, to the warm sandy beaches of Ponte Vedra, and the loggerhead turtles, you can't help but feel you are there. This book is one of those books you will want stay up reading until late into the night. CHARLES MARTIN has a way of doing that to readers. THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US is currently being made into a movie, which is set to be released in September 2017. Read the book first!

This is a story about Ben and Ashley, two strangers who charter a plane during a snowstorm to make it home to their partners. During the flight, the pilot has a heart attack and crashes in the wilderness, leaving Ben and Ashley stranded in miles of snowcapped mountain wilderness.

No offense, but I
Show More
found this surprisingly good. I'm not one to read books in this genre and I wasn't sure how I would feel about it (or if I would even finish it). But, I did finish it and I liked it. Loved it even. I really enjoyed the theme of two people struggling to survive in the wilderness while also maintaining the main focus of Ben and his love for his wife. I recommend anybody picking this book up and giving it a read if you haven't already.

I want to thank Blogging For Books for this book in exchange for an honest review.
