Description

It's the hot topic of the moment. Christians, the church and the Bible seem to be out of step with modern attitudes towards homosexuality. And there is growing hostility towards those who hold a different view. So is God homophobic? And what do we say, and how do we relate to to both Christians and non Christians who experience same-sex attraction. In this short, simple book, Sam Allberry wants to help confused Christians understand what God has said about these questions in the scriptures, and offers a positive and liberating way forward through the debate.

Author Sam Allberry is "spot one" (since he is apparently British I couldn't help that).
Standout quotes:
We "...need to know who Jesus is before being landed with what he requires." (63)
""We will need to explain how repentance for the practicing homosexual will involve turning away from a gay

lifestyle, but we'll also want to show how all of us, when we come to Christ, die to ourselves so that we can live a new life in him." (74)
"We will want them to know that allegiance to Christ for a gay person is as costly and glorious as it is for anyone else." (74)
The closing is beautiful:
"The great gift Jesus gives us is himself. He is not the means to some other end. It is not that the bread of life is something else, and Jesus happens to be the one who dispenses it. He himself is this bread. It is Jesus who satisfies our deepest emotional and spiritual needs. He is the prize--for all of us, irrespective of our issues and complexities. Anyone who comes to him will find fullness of life.
"The Invitation is there for everyone. And so precious is this gift that God cannot be truly said to be 'anti' anyone to whom this wonderful gift is being offered." (81)
A great book that is relevant to all times.

Great little book. I hope this becomes a trusted and regularly used tool in the church's discipleship toolbox.

I wish I had read Sam Allberry's book two decades ago. After reading this short work, I have realized how many mistakes I have made when engaging those affected by homosexuality or same-sex attraction (SSA). Allberry, who has struggled with SSA himself, lays out a sound biblical defense of sex as a

God-given gift to be exercised exclusively between married men and women. He then demonstrates how Christians can stand on biblical principles in a world where that view is increasingly offensive to the tolerant postmodernists. But the best part of Is God anti-gay? is Allberry's advice on how to respond to those who struggle with sexual sin, believers who come out with struggles of same-sex attraction, and how to engage active homosexuals with the Gospel. This book should be a must-read for those serious about engaging the their neighbors with the Gospel!

Very short and simple, but probably the clearest and overall best resource I've seen on the subject. Allberry is an evangelical pastor who experiences SSA and has chosen a life of celibacy. This book is for everyone, including Christians who are trying to relate with both believers and

non-believers who are dealing with SSA, as well as those dealing with SSA who are trying to understand what the Bible teaches about homosexuality. The length and simplicity of the book make it accessible to anyone.
