Poems about bees that include informational text. The images of the bees connect to and represent the text.

There are two reasons why I really like this book. The first reason is definitely the language used. There is a poem who is written from the bee perspective. Basically the entire book is about bees describing their life to the reader as a poem form. In addition there is paragraph written giving

more information about the bee. I like how the book is very informative but yet not very hard to read. In addition the illustrations are as if a child drew the pictures but yet each picture captures perfectly what the bee looks like. Also the bigger bees are drown very big and the little bees are drawn really tiny. The big idea of this book is learning about bees and how there are a lot of them out there. This book is a very fun book to read with the children and also very informative.

great book of poems about bees, very informational, great pictures - one relating to each poem. A lot to cover in one reading, but great to highlight areas. Children can use alone by just looking at the pictures or with a reader. poems are short and rich vocabulary

This is another winner by Douglas Florian. Each poem takes up 2 facing pages. One has the poem and bee facts and the opposite has the illustrations. Each poem is a topic such as Worker Bees and beneath the short poem is a fact about worker bees.
I really like this book because honeybee colonies are

disappearing. Why, pesticides, viruses; scientists aren't sure. This book in some small way promotes awareness. Florian addresses the issue briefly at the end of the book.
As for the illustrations, I am a little out to lunch but they are beginning to grow on me. The bees seem to have semblances to human face;, wearing ball caps, possessing pink hair, and wings that look more like arms. The colors are beautiful. I think children will like this one.
