building. He walks readers through the different stages of honey-making, all while crooning sweetly to his enormous bee family. Nargi artfully explains the "inner-workings" of bee hives, their inhabitants, and their individual tasks. Her poetic lines about Fred's envy of the bees' elegant fight is quite beautiful. Teachers or parents can also learn a thing or two about apiarists from the detailed and labeled sketches on the inside book covers and the longer explanation about the facts of bees and pollination at the back of the book. "The Honeybee Man" also spends a lot of time connecting bees to their source of nourishment; nectar found in flowers and plants throughout the city, encouraging children to think about the interdependency of nature. The "sweet" relationship Fred has with his bees may also help children who are afraid of the insects - showing them that bees are more than just a bunch of stingers! Recommended for children 6 to 8.

Fred takes care of his bees in Brooklyn. This little picture book is filled with facts about those who care for honeybees and honeybees themselves. A nice introduction to the world of the urban beekeeper.
