I've been waiting for this book ever since I finished The Elite last year. I love this trilogy. It's a fun twist of the Bachelor but set in the future and it's the Prince that must choose a wife. This is the conclusion when Maxon decides which Elite he picks. Of course from the beginning you had to
Show More
know it would be America because why have a strong character like her not to be picked. Or was she? America becomes a stronger person as the story progresses, she stands up for what she believes in and helps Maxon become a stronger person and learn who he really is. There are more rebels too. Now that all three books are out, I would read them all at once. Since there is a book 4 and 5 coming does that mean this has changed from a trilogy to a series? This book sure ended like it was the end of a trilogy.

This book. OHMYGOD I'M OBSESSED. I literally was yelling "JUST TELL ME ALREADY!" in my family room and my mom turns and gives me this look like 'are you insane?'. Then she asks me "Are your characters not doing what you want them to?". Well, obviously... and I'm impatient.

This series is really

original. I loved it.

This final book in the Selection series was a disappoinment. Once again, more angst and vacillation from Max -- I truly cannot believe loves America from the evidence provided in the book. America herself seems less strong in this book. I gave up halfway through.

This is the final book in the selection series. America is one of the few remaining Elite. She and one of the other Elite, Celeste (the mean girl) become best friends. America is in love with the prince, Maxon. The King disagrees with America marrying Maxon. So, Maxon and America decide that they
Show More
need to get the people to love her and the king will love her. The king announces a party in which the Elite have to invite two people. America invites a friend, Georgia, and the princess of Italy, Nicolette. They talk and the king receives a note saying that the Italians would appreciate it if America and the royal family would visit them. America is then told that her Father was dead. She goes home for four days and mourns her dad. When she returns to the palace the Maxon tells her he intends to marry her. Aspen (her old lover) is jealous, and the prince sees him hugging her. The prince tells America he will not marry her. Then the day of the announcement of who the prince will marry ,rebels attack. Maxon gets shot in the arm, his parents are dead and Maxon tells America how much he loves her and that if they make it through the rebels he will marry her. In the end Maxon marries America, and they live happily ever after.

I love the selection series. I went every day to the library waiting for this book. It had a pretty fast beginning and a pretty slow ending. I love the tempo of the book. I love the intesity. I enjoy the way the book expresses her feelings. I like the way it makes me think about my future.

Only four girls are left in the Selection, the Bacheloresque process in which Illea's crown prince, Maxon, chooses his bride. Celeste, Kriss, and Elise all have reasons for remaining this long, but America is still unsure where she stands and if she has the abilities to be princess. It doesn't help
Show More
that the king himself doesn't want her there. Though she's determined that she loves Maxon, she's afraid of opening her heart before she's sure of his.

I have mixed feelings about this trilogy as a whole, which I still maintain could have been one story and a tighter, better one for it. This one reads as fast as the others, and the tension is high as both the Northern and Southern rebels are still attacking the castle, and their motives and hopes are finally explained. I enjoyed seeing where the characters ended up, and found America, Aspen, and Maxon's choices believable. Some of the twists towards the end of the story left me surprised (and honestly a little miffed), though the ending was sweet and satisfying, wrapping everything up hopefully.

Good wrap up not leaving any loose ends. Was roughly what I expected but still a good amount of suspense and still some things to learn about the characters.

I finally finished reading The One, I was kind of dragging it out because I really hate ending a series that I love. It just makes me so sad. The One was everything I expected, lots of romance, action and friendship. I couple times I had to make myself slow down, it was really good that I just
Show More
wanted to enjoy it.

I loved that the remaining girls resolved all their issues with each other and became friends. It was so much better that way. I have to admit, it was weird that Celeste was being so nice. Mason was just Mason.....handsome, sweet, strong and sexy (at least in my mind.) I was just smiling at some of the really sweet moments between Mason and America. It just can't get any sweeter than the two of them together.

The ending left me very happy and everything seemed to be resolved. There were some really beautiful moments at the end that I won't share with you, I don't want to spoil it for anyone reading this. It was just very special and very fitting for everyone. I really hope they come out with a hardcover box set, I really want to own that! :)”

This is the final book in the selection series. America has finally found who she wants to spend the rest of her life with. She finds new best friends. She learns a lot about the rebels. Aspen becomes more and more jealous. Maxon finds out about there affair. But he still marries her anyways after a
Show More
near death experience.

I love this series. I wish they were making another book to this series. It was an equal amount of sorrow and happiness. I believe this book has the perfect ending. I am ashamed to say that cried in the middle of this book. It has so much drama and intensity. This book is a must read.

The book was the perfect way to end this series.

America Singer has finally made it to The Elite, the best of the best, and now has to really fight for Prince Maxon. She has figured out that she has feelings for Prince Maxon, done some terrible things to hurt him, and now must win back his trust.
While The Selection is going on, the entire country is in turmoil. The palace is being attacked almost daily and the King has no idea what they want. America and Maxon see the trouble of the nation and know something must be done all while trying to fix things between them. In the end, will Maxon choose America to be his princess bride?

Overall I enjoyed this book/series. The story moved along at a really good pace that I wasn't bored to tears or left wondering what was going on. I liked how the characters actually developed and grew along the way. It was nice to see them do that over three books, not just during the last book within the last 50 pages.

This was one of the more enjoyable reads of 2014 so I give this 4 out of 5 stars.

Quick & Dirty: Great ending to a fun series. While I didn’t love everything about this book, I did find it an enjoyable read!

Opening Sentence: This time we were in the Great Room enduring another etiquette lesson when bricks came flying through the window.

The
Show More
Review:

The Selection is coming to an end. With only four girls left the competition has started to become much more real. America has finally decided that she wants to fight for Maxon, but is she too late to win back his trust? From the beginning she has struggled with her feelings for Aspen and the feelings that have slowly developed for Maxon. She has made a lot of mistakes along the way, but there’s one thing America is very good at and that is fighting for what she wants!

With the threat from the rebels and the growing tension throughout the kingdom, it looks like Illéa is going to need to make a few changes if they want to survive. Can America be the Princess the kingdom needs to prosper and grow in this trying time, or would one of the other girls be a better fit for the crown?

I had a love/hate relationship with America throughout this book. I love her determination and bravery. She is a very tender-hearted person, but at the same time she can be tough. She grew a lot throughout the process of the selection and it was wonderful to see her become such an amazing woman. But there were times when she drove me crazy. I don’t know why she keeps so much from Maxon. I get that she is scared to open up and get hurt in the end, but I thought that she should have been more honest. There would have been a lot less unnecessary drama if she would have just been more open about her feelings. In the end, I thought that America was a great character that has some obvious flaws, but I still ended up really loving her.

I have been team Maxon from the first book. Everything about him was just so charming and he really is the ideal prince. I loved that he even though he was in an impossible situation he always tried to make the best of it. He is a very positive person and in the end he wasn’t willing to settle for anything less then what he deserved. He always treated America with respect and he was very thoughtful when it came to all the girls. I loved his relationship with America, I was so happy that I got to reconnect with them as a couple again. Overall, I thought that Maxon was a very swoony guy and I loved getting to know him.

When I first met Aspen I really loved him. He was smart, gorgeous, and just an all around good person. When he loves someone he would do anything for them. He is very loyal and someone that you can always rely on. I thought that his relationship with America was very sweet and honestly I do think they would be very cute together. But I just felt that they were a little bit too similar to really work. They were both so stubborn and in the end I think they would be better off as just friends.

The One was a wonderful conclusion to a very fun series. I have read a lot of mixed reviews on this book, but for me personally, I thought it was well done. I have come to the conclusion that there is no way to please everyone when you end a series, especially one as popular as The Selection. Personally, I thought that Cass did a great job tying up all the loose ends and while the story was predictable, I still felt that it was enjoyable. I think that the character development was spot on. There were a few times I felt that things were a little rushed, especially at the end of the book, but overall the pacing was good. The ending was very satisfying, and while I am sad that we won’t get any more of this world, I am excited to see what else Cass decides to do next. If you are a young adult dystopian fan or like the show, Bachelor, you should try this series!

Notable Scene:

Maxon looked down at my wrist. “Do you . . .” He looked up at me, seeming to rethink his question. “Do you want to dance?”

I nodded. “But I’m awful.”

“We’ll go slow.”

Maxon pulled me close, placing a hand on my waist. I put one hand in his and used the other to pick up my soaking dress. We swayed, barely moving. I settled my cheek on Maxon’s chest, he rested his chin on my head, and we spun to the music of the rain.

As he made his grip on me a little bit tighter, it felt like all the bad had been erased and Maxon and I were stripped to the core of our relationship. We were friends who realized they didn’t want to be without each other. We were the other’s opposite in many ways but also so very similar. I couldn’t call our relationship fate, but it did seem bigger than anything I’d known before.

I raised my face to Maxon’s, placing a hand on his cheek, pulling him down for a kiss. His lips, wet, met mine with a brush of heat. I felt both his hands wrap around my back, holding me to him as if he’d fall apart otherwise. While the rain pummeled the roof, the whole world went silent. It felt like there wasn’t enough of him, not enough skin or space or time.

After all these months of trying to reconcile what I wanted and hoped for, I realized then—in this moment Maxon created just for us—that it would never make sense. All I could do was move forward and hope that whenever we drifted, we would somehow find a way back to each other.

And we had to. Because . . . because . . .

For as long as it took to get to this moment, when it came it was fast.

I loved Maxon. For the first time, I could feel it solidly. I wasn’t keeping the feeling at a distance, holding on to Aspen and all the what-ifs that went along with him. I wasn’t walking into Maxon’s affections while keeping one foot out the door in case he let me down. I simply let it come.

I loved him.

Who will America choose - Aspen? Maxon? Who are the rebels? Will the selection end with a choice and a wedding? The trilogy wraps up in this volume.

I've rated all the Selection books three stars. America was pretty irritating at times, not as bad as she was in The Elite, but still enough to irk me. I have never been so frustrated with a character so much in my life. Despite that, I still like the series. It is pretty entertaining, if nothing

else. I am pleased with the outcome in this one. I was really concerned before and during reading, so I'm happy with how everything turned out.

I wanted to read The One because I enjoyed the other two. The selection process has been hard, and I have seen a lot of change in America. The love triangle and some of America's lack of decisiveness when it comes to her preferred man has been on my nerves a bit, but the first two were still
Show More
addicting to me and I grew to like Maxon more and more, and saw the desire to be a princess and future queen bloom in America and then see the ideas for chance that she had.

The One didn't let me down, and I really enjoyed her journey. There were so many times when I thought that her rash decisions, or her strength and desire for justice to be done were going to the the end of her quest to the crown.

I also loved the tension between the two of them. America and Maxon both kept some secrets and didn't want to fully express their feelings, and while I understood where they were coming from and their reasonings, it was still hard because I just wanted them to be together and happy.

America had some big losses in this one, but she's grown a lot, and amassed quite the fans and followers. As well as making friends with her maids as well as some other unexpected people who make a return appearance. The friends that she made within the other Elite were unexpected to me, and some sage wisdom from the queen helped to actually bring them together, which in some ways, made their quest even harder but others easier, because they had someone who understood them on their sides, and closest to ever walking in their shoes.

The ending wrapped things up in the way that I'd hoped, and brought about some changes that I wasn't quite expecting but it gave me a lot of hope for America, Maxon, Aspen, and the others that I came to care about.

Bottom Line: Good ending to addicting series.

I am so pleased with the way this fun and thoughtful series ended. While it was certainly a romance - after all, the whole point was to see who Maxon would choose - it was the other elements that kept me enthralled, and led me to root for America, Maxon, Aspen, and even, inexplicable, Celeste. I
Show More
loved that even when America was conflicted, confused, and unsure of her relationships, she never lost sight of herself, and was never willing to settle or allow herself to be less than what she wanted to be. I appreciated the author's clear-eyed portrayal of a love that won't be easy, and of her insistence that this is NOT a happily-ever-after story. This is really, really good YA writing, and I will definitely be recommending it to lots of other readers I know.

Better than the second one. I'm still not sure where she went from being in love with both to deciding she wasn't in love with Aspen anymore. Pretty sappy, but I know there are a lot of people who want that.

America Singer and three others are left and she is getting nervous. About everything like who she really loves Aspen or Prince Maxon. When two Northern Rebels get into the castle and they request to talk to Maxon and America alone. They purposefully wait till the king is gone on work to talk.
Because they know he is much more understanding. They tell America that see has to win if they wan t to keep the Soutern Rebels from winning and the Southern Rebles are just trying to scare the girls so they will stop the Selection from ending. And in the end America Singer becomes the princess of New Asia with Prince Maxon.
What I loved about The One is that it is a charming love story. And is about courage and bravery and about who you really love. And it is also filled with action and drama. Plus It is the third book in the series. The books are The Selection, The Elite, The One, The Prince & The Guard. The Prince & The Guard is the story from Maxon the prince and from Aspen the guard.

The One is about a 17-year old girl who gets selected by the king himself to become the Queen of Illea and the beloved Prince´s Wife, but there are also 35 other girls who want the same thing. America Singer never actually wanted to become the prince´s Wife or The Queen at first but after meeting
Show More
the Prince and knowing him better she slowely started falling in love with his personality and looks. The prince´s name is Maxon. In this book, the story continues wiht only 5 peope left in the selection and with America singer and prince Maxon being in Love and wanting to get married, but alot of things seem to happen between them and thats when their Relationship seem to be on the edge of a cliff. Also Maxon´s Father
, the King of Illea, doesnt seem to like the attitude that America is given towards the Selection. He tries everything to stop them from getting married and ending the selection. There are also the Rebels who attack the Kingdom and are trying to stop the Selection and are trying to kill the Royal Family. The civilization live in castes, that means that if you are a One that means you belong to the royal Family. A two means you are a Celebrity : professional Model, actor, MTV-singers and you are a from wealthy families, also there are officers of any policing, militiary, firefighting, or guardian posititon assigned to by Draft. The threes, which are Educators of any kind. The Fours who are Farm, hotel, restaurants, shop owners, also head chefs, jewelers or real estate Agents. Fives which are professional muscians, singers, dancers and other things that have soemthing to do with Art. America is a Five, so a singer. Sixes which are secretaries, house keepers, cooks. Seven are gardeners, construction wokers, gutter andpool cleaners. Last but not least, there are the Eights : which are mentally or physcally disabled, criminals, runaways or homeless. America and Maxon are trying to put a stop to the castes. In the End, The King and the Queen get killed by the rebels. Maxon gets shot in the chest but survives and America gets married to maxon ; becomes the Queen of Illea and ends the caste system. The END

I rated the book with four stars because, it shows how you might live if this Caste system existed, and what it would be like if the Selection was real. It also shows the live of a girl who gets selected to marry a prince with 35 other girls, she gets to experience the live of a princess and the otehr things that the book has to offer. The only downer part was that as much as i liked the book, it had alittle to much lovey-dovey parts which were alittle to cheesy and not my thing type. My favorite character in this book was the Queen of Illea (eventhough she wasnt in the book so much) because she was nice and she forgave other people no matter how many mistakes they made, gave the contestants courage, and showed that even a lower caste could become a queen. My second favorite character was the main character herself, America Singer because she was so different from the other contestants: she wore simple things instead of the other girls, never wore alot of make-up and was alot more natural with her looks and towards the prince. She treated her maids nicely, protected them, trusted them and always helped them when they needed it. She never wanted much or needed much, and she didnt care about the money or the fame, as long as she had her love by her side , she was happy. I enjoyed the whole series very much and i recommend it to those who like love, Royal, Fantasy, Action books.

The One by Kiera Cass is the final of the three novels in The Selection series. For those that have not read the first two books in the series, stop right now and go read them. This is not a stand alone novel and you will have absolutely no idea what is going on. For those that have read the
Show More
series, we are down to the final four and the pressure is on.

The story is lovely, poor girl catches the Prince’s eye by being herself. A great message for today’s girls to be yourself. America Singer’s best moments are when she doesn't over think what people want her to do or feel and just does what feels right. The series is teen focused and for the most part the lessons that America learns can be applied to everyday life: people aren’t always as they seem, be true to yourself, sometimes life throw you curve balls and not everything ends happily.

The reader is left hanging chapter after chapter as one just knows that the secret between Aspen and America is going to come out sometime. There are many different paths that could have gone and I was surprised at how Cass chose to reveal it to Prince Maxon but not disappointed. I was shocked at who didn’t make it to the end and I will admit, for some, I didn’t see it coming. It was however, an easy way to eliminate obstacles to the ending and I felt a little cheated that it ended so soon after such monumental revelations.

Overall a good solid ending to the series. Most got their happy ending and while some did not, I feel that those that love the books they will find peace with how it all turns out. Appropriate for the teen genre, it gets an A.

(This review is a synopsis of the 3 book series, but doesn't contain major spoilers.)

First of all — how beautiful are these covers? Honestly, they are breathtaking.

In Illéa’s caste system, America Singer is a 5. That means that she, and her family, must find a career in the arts (regardless of
Show More
the demand for their craft). America is lucky enough to have a beautiful singing voice and she loves to play instruments, so she doesn’t seem to mind too much. Illéa is a newly formed country set in the future consisting of North America and Latin America. The country is ruled by King Clarkson and Queen Amberly. They have a single heir, Maxon, and he has finally come of age. Unlike princesses, who are married off into other royal families, princes get to participate in the “Selection.” (Think The Bachelor, but with citizens of Illéa.)

America doesn’t want to sign up because she has a secret love — Aspen. But the Selection will pay her poor family for participating, and Aspen insists that she try to have a chance at a better life. Marrying Aspen would downgrade her to a 6, only two steps away from homelessness and poverty. On the other hand, marrying Prince Maxon would make her a One, the highest caste in Illéa. When America is chosen to participate out of thousands of eligible young women, her family is ecstatic — the complete opposite of her feelings.

America enters the glamorous, regal life of the royal family, and must compete with 34 other daughters of Illéa for the heart of Prince Maxon. At first, she isn’t interested. Why would she want some stuck-up prince when she has someone waiting for her at home? But Maxon isn’t what he seems, and it changes America’s plans…

The first three books, The Selection, The Elite, and The One, embody the entirety of Prince Maxon’s Selection (the Elite are the top six, the One is the one he chooses). The books are filled with butterfly-in-stomach romance, catty girlfights, love triangles, and surprisingly some political strife. America grows with each book, becoming more and more of what Illéa needs in a Princess — but will she be the One Prince Maxon chooses?

I purchased this in a beautiful 3-book box set that included a bonus from the novellas that Kiera Cass wrote from different characters’ points of view. I read these three books in record time — they were day-dreamy guilty pleasure reads, and I found myself continuously lost in world of Illéa.

I enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, then became really annoyed with the main character by the second book, but since I had read that far I felt like I had to finish the series. I admit to enjoying the occasionally romance story, but I want a strong and determined female character, not one
Show More
that defines herself by the man she loves. Reading this series was like watching a fish flop on the dock. Every other page the main character was changing her mind about who she loved, sabotaging her own chances at the Selection and quite accidentally helping the rebel forces with each move. By the last book in the series , I was far more interested in the rebellion and how Maxon would fair than I was in fickle-hearted America.
