These books are ok and quite good for kids to get an idea of a period of history but they do not tell you much. I liked this one as the area is fairly local to my parents but I do not know much about it.

I found some of the writing rather ham-fisted, and the tortured plot twists that have the two main children first remaining in London after the majority of their friends have been evacuated, and then *having* to return when they are finally evacuated - urgh. But as a book for children, I suspect it

probably hits the right spot, as what felt like too much exposition probably comes from having read rather a lot of WWII centred books.
