Description

'The line between magic and sanity is very thin. That's part of why I, Garnet Lacey, quit cold turkey. Never touch the stuff. No Exceptions.' Trouble is magic is so addictive, especially when you've got inner goddesses like Lilith to contend with. And it doesn't stop there for Garnet; if you are going to run an occult bookstore then you've got to expect customers like Sebastian Von Traum, with his piercing brown eyes, sexy accent, killer body and total lack of an aura; which means he's dead... Trouble can be so hard to resist, and what with Vatican witch hunters, long lost vampire exes and a boyfriend with an ex-wife who is literally stirring in her grave, Garnet Lacey has trouble enough for anyone.

It was great to finally come across a fiction book using Witchcraft as a main theme where the author really knows her stuff! I was getting fed up with all the "poseurs" out there who introduce the subject of Witchcraft into their books simply to sell more copies, while not knowing the first thing
Show More
about it. Of course, the author did introduce some additional fantasy elements to keep the story interesting as well.

We have Garnet, a practicing Pagan and Witch, trying to escape her past and the Vatican Witch Hunters who killed her old coven. She works at a New Age shop, where she meets Sebastian, a fellow Witch—Alchemist actually—who's also a vampire. It becomes a race against time as they try to evade the the witch hunters on their tail, help Sebastian remake his "formula", and Garnet tries to keep her invoked Goddess Lilith in check.

Were this book not reserved for someone else, I'd have hung on to it to share with some of my other witch friends. As it is, it left me anxiously awaiting it's sequel.

This was entertaining enough during the time that I was reading it; however, once finished I found it largely forgettable. In fact, I loaned it to a friend and never bothered to get it back. Someday I may try out the rest of this series, but it's way down low on my list.

This was a little hard to get into but once I got past the second chapter it really was a pretty good book.

Last year, I read Halloway's Dead Sexy, the second Garnet Lacy book. I finally got around to reading the first. This was more of an adventure than I expected. I have to say I really like these books. The treatment of wicca, while very much magical in the spells and possessions kind of witchcraft,

is still pretty respectful to the religion. The characters are interesting, and nobody's all good or all bad. Garnet, the main character, could easily go wrong, but she feels pretty real to me. She makes mistakes and hooks up with (the wrong) guys too quickly, and she doesn't always get what she wants. I like her. It's chick lit in the best sense of the term.

This book was a fun read, but ultimately left me feeling like something was missing. I never really managed to care for Garnet, and her relationships with her boyfriends and friends felt oddly stilted. Still, an enjoyable throwaway read if you're looking for something with witches and vampires.

First in the Garnet Lacey series. Garnet is a witch. One night when she was late, the rest of her coven was slaughtered by Vatican witch hunters. She found them, called the Goddess Lilith into herself, and Lilith kills the witch hunters. Now she lives in a new town with a new name and life. She

meets a very attractive man who, sadly, is dead. He's a vampire, but has powers such that he can be active in daylight due to a formula he created. Now everyone is after his formula, including Lilith. Garnet and Sebastian are strongly drawn together.

I read this after reading a short story by the same author. It is a good start to a series. Worth a read.

This is a cute story, and a quick read if you have several hours to sit down with a blanket and a mug of hot cocoa. It has some great characters that jump out of the pages and scream "get to know me!" in a way you just can't ignore. Personally, I had a hard time not running to the library or book

store to find the next one in the series!

When Garnet Lacey was late for a coven gathering she found a team of Vatican witch hunters giving all her friends their last rites. She calls on Lilith to help her avenge her friends.

However Lilith didn't go away afterwards and lurks in the back of Garnets head. She has moved towns and is trying

hard to blend. When a tall, dark, handsome stranger walks into the shop she works in she realises that he's undead, not the first time she's had dealings with the undead. Will her vow to keep away from magic stay, or will Lilith break free again?

A light read in the same vein (no pun intended) as MaryJanice Davidson. Pretty typical light vampire romance

I finally got a copy of this shipped in from another library only to realise on the first page that I had already read it quite a while ago - the book i read had a completely different cover to the one here and on the other editions listed at goodreads - probably an older Australian market specific

I gave this book a chance because after reading something like High Stakes by Erin McCarthy, I thought these light, “chick lit” paranormal romances weren’t that bad, and could be a great light read after potential heavy reads.

This one is slightly more darker, and with more action but not
Show More
enough to take it away from the romance/chick lit genre. However what I really enjoyed the most out of this book was the humor. There was plenty of it. It’s Garnet Lacey’s wit that draws you to the story, and also makes you like her as a character. She’s not your typical romantic heroine either, which also makes for her appeal. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments in the book -even coming from the bad guys in the novel as well.

The main story plot is pretty good and well written. The story arc with Garnet and the Vatican is very interesting. The romantic plot isn’t too bad (mind you, I’m not one for romances so I am biased in this aspect of the book). Although I have to say, Garnet and Sebastian as a couple...it’s a little off. I didn't find any chemistry between them, and didn't find them a great couple to begin with. Garnet and Parrish is the same way. Perhaps a little work is needed on giving the couples a little more chemistry to make the match more enjoyable to read, instead of just being together for the sake of having a main couple for the novel. I found it a little odd how Sebastian and Garnet instantly become an ‘item’ after a night..it baffles me still. Yet perhaps how my idea of how a couple should start off is much different than how the author pictured.

The story arc with Lilith is interesting and got me wanting to read further into this series I’m intrigued as to what is going to happen. Lilith has her own plans and this builds intrigue and mystery into the book which is enjoyable to read. There was one particular moment in the book where Garnet had to ‘be on top’ (get my meaning?) because of Lilith (if you are familiar with mythology and Lilith then you’ll understand what I’m trying to get at). I thought that was so cheesy and silly it was enough for me to utter an awful comment or two out loud. It wasn’t necessary and might probably induce a lot of eye rolling from readers who are well familiar with the Lilith myth.

Yet thanks to the humor, and Garnet as a character (whom I enjoyed reading very much) this was enough for me to carry on and enjoy the book. I recommend this book to those who feel like a light read, with a dark twist throughout. It’s got humor, it’s got romance, a little bit of action, and it’s a nice blend to make the story fun to read, and also makes you want to know what’s going to happen next.

If your looking for a fun short paranormal read this is the series! These books contain almost every paranormal being you can think of, and even though it was very fun with a spunky main character, it lakes in originality.
The main character is a witch who falls in love with a very handsome

vampire. As Their relationship grows many things happen to get in the way but the language is humorous and all in all a good read.

Synopsis: Garnet Lacey runs a magic shop; at least that's her current job. She had been happily practicing her Craft until her coven had been murdered and Lilith had possessed Garnet. Now Garnet is hiding from the Vatican witch hunters and from herself.
Review: This is a super book, easily readable

in one sitting. The characters are entertaining, the story is engrossing, and the action is exciting. While hopefully predictable, the ending leaves an opening for further storylines.

fun book overall. Garnett is a sometimes practicing witch. Her coven was killed by a group of Vatican anti-witch hunters. Now she is trying to be incognito working in a wiccan bookstore/supply shop. She meets a man with no aura who soon becomes her lover. But all things are not as they seem when
Show More
her former lover shows up in her new town and so do the Vatican witch hunters.

Loved it . Funny and also romantic with a few naughty bits.

I read about half of this book but even after a quarter I didn't want to go on. I found none of the main characters likable. To like a book like this, there has to be some redeeming feature about the main characters or at least something that makes them interesting. For me, this book failed. I gave

up and will give the book away.

This is the first book in the Garnet Lacey series; there are five books in this series. This was an okay start to a paranormal romance series involving a witch, some vampires, and the Vatican operatives that hunt them down.

The characters were okay but the heroine, Garnet, really wasn't the type of
Show More
heroine I enjoy reading about. She was honestly a bit...well...slutty (I know, I know I shouldn't say this but she really was) and seemed a bit confused about why the things that happened to her, well, happened. She made a lot of bad decisions and I get frustrated with heroines like that.

The romance was pretty thin and the sex scenes were poorly written. The paranormal aspects were pretty typical witch/vampire themes. This book didn't shine in either the paranormal aspects or the romance aspects.

The story plot was a bit thin as well and the side characters weren't that well done. My favorite side character was William who is one of Garnet's co-workers; he was way more interesting than any of the main characters….which was kind of sad given how little he’s in the story.

Overall, while this was an okay light paranormal romance read and an okay diversion, I wasn't really impressed by anything here. I don't plan on continuing the series.

I picked this up because I needed a break from the teen drama that YA normally brings! :) I wanted a light read that would bring the romance factor and dabble a bit on the comedic side. Tate Hallaway's Tall, Dark & Dead did all of that and more. Garnet is a bit of a loner after having split town a

few months back. She's new to her town, manages an occult bookstore, and just met her dream guy. There's only one problem. He doesn't cast an aura and she doesn't know if he's aware that he's dead! Now, how to figure out what he is...and tell him the bad news?? Meanwhile, she believes that the same people she's running from are out to get him. This book is the first in what I'm sure is a fabulous series that outlines the ups and downs of Garnet's life.
