This is a fun and appealing book about rocks and minerals. The descriptions are written in first-person narrative and each item is accompanied by an illustration that has a face and other human like qualities. Along with a description of each rock or mineral is a list of basic facts as well as

three interesting facts. Each chapter is identified by icons and color schemes and an index and glossary are included. The vocabulary is challenging but the information is presented clearly and directly, therefore I would recommend this book to students in grades 2-5. My only hesitation in recommending this book is that most of my students who come asking about rocks and minerals want a book that has photos not illustrations. However, the illustrations are so cute and the text makes it so approachable that this may appeal to children who don't already have a fascination with rocks and minerals. Show Less
