Overwhelmed by an urge for trash, I picked this up one evening but I could not bear to finish it. Even though I had enjoyed the Xena television series, I could not warm to any of the characters and I became quite impatient of the way that most smiles only affected the corners of their mouths.

Bedevilled by a slow pace, weak characterisation, pale descriptions, and no real focus, I abandoned the book after 85 pages.
