Notes
Preface:
America needs to know the source of her liberty. She is being led to embrace ideas which, if pursued, will destroy her most precious heritage. In this treatise I have attempted to show the inseparable relation between Christianity and freedom. The eternal truth of the historic Christian faith must be applied to our current problems if we are to continue in the pursuit of happiness and preserve the blessings of liberty.
Most of the material in chapter 7 I first presented in an address, "The State's Responsibility Under God to Maintain Freedom," June 4, 1946, at the Barclay Hotel, Philadelphia, Pa., before the National Society of the Magna Carta Dames, descendants of the barons who wrested from King John in 1215 A.D. the charter which has become the basis of English liberties.
