"This book reproduces the substance of a course of lectures delivered during the Lent and Trinity Terms 1954 at St. Andrew's College in the University of Sydney. The Lectures were attended by Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian theological students, at whose request they have been prepared for publication. While the general scheme of the course has been retained, the original material of the lectures has been supplemented and the whole rewritten and expanded."
