Notes
Named person : Rev. John Dabney Shane [1812-1864]
From the Preface :
"While many genealogists and historians are familiar with the collection of Rev. John Dabney Shane's papers in the Draper Manuscripts, it often comes as a surprise tht half of the Rev. Mr. Shane's papers are located at the Presbyterian Historical Association [sic, Society] in Philadelphia, and not in Draper's collection. For far too long the wealth of information in the Shane papers in Philadelphia has remained unrecognized and inaccessible. To help remedy that situation and to help make the papers easier for the searcher to use, this calendar has been compiled.
. . .Rev. John Dabney Shane (1812-1864) interviewed old pioneers and gathered other material including many old records for a history of frontier Presbyterianism. At his death some of his records were purchased by Lyman Copeland Draper (1815-1891) and were incorporated in the "Draper Papers" now in the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. They are in the section called "Kentucky Papers" (Series CC), and are in Volumes 11-19 of that series.
. . . The Shane papers which were not purchased by Draper went to the Presbyterian Historical Association [sic, Society], 425 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147, where they remain."
