Notes

A somewhat strident attack on the Revs. Cheeseman and Lord (he begins by pointing out how fat they have become) and of the Old School theology. He refers to them as heated and bitter partisans. William Carpenter Wisner (1808-1880), b. Elmira, NY; d. Lockport, NY. After several shorter pastorates, Rev. Wisner became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Lockport, N. Y., a post that he held for thirty-four years. He was for many years a trustee of Hamilton College and of Auburn Seminary. A "New School" Presbyterian, he was moderator of their General Assembly at St. Louis in 1855.
