George Porter (1787-1872) was the son of John and Ann Porter of Queenborough, Kent, England. He married Elizabeth Mary Bassett, the daughter of Henry and Mary Bassett, at Southwark, England in 1809. They were the parents of eleven children. George and Elizabeth emigrated with five children to Port Adelaide, South Australia in 1839 and they settled near Alberton where they farmed. Several generations of ancestors and descendants are given.
