The Biographical Index of South Australians is undoubtedly one of the key resources for historians to consult when researching those in South Australia prior to 1885. It came about as as result of the South Australian Genealogy and Heraldry Society deciding to publish a permanent record of people who lived in South Australia during the first 50 years of colonisation (1836-1885) to coincide with the State's Jubilee 150 year (1986).
