The village of Marion was laid out on the banks of the Sturt River in 1838. 80 acres had been granted to Henry Nixon and Boyle Travers Finniss and a partnership formed with Colonel Light. First church was St. Ann's Catholic Church in Finniss St. 1859. Wesleyan Church began 1862.
