This is the story of ten pioneering mining families - Welsh/Lowe, Bryde, Northey, Petersson, Hortin, Edwards/Baker, Lubcke, Foulkes, Bannister and Coates. The families came from London, Mochrum Scotland, Cornwall, Sweden, Worcestershire, Liverpool, Louenburg Germany, London, Derby and Birmingham respectively.

Ephraim Welsh and Emma Satchell arrived in South Australia in 1840. Emma on the ship Orissa, Ephraim (Abraham) on the Katherine Stewart Forbes 1837 or City of London, 1840.
