This book consists of an edited collection of articles published by the Pioneers Association of South Australia over the past 70 years. The articles cover the early years of exploration leading to the decision to form the colony of South Australia. They then look at the reasons why people emigrated and the hardships they faced on the long voyages of the pioneering ships. Later chapters cover early impressions of Adelaide and the development of the town, as well as the spread of settlement into rural South Australia.
