Description
A family history of South Australian Pioneers from Altenau in Harz mountains, Germany 1845 and 1847. Ludwig Dreyer was the first smelting master at Burra Mines but after trials and errors, he, his wife and three children settled in Adelaide and built the heritage listed Prince Albert Hotel in Wright Street. It is a tale of much hardship and determination of all family members. The family left a legacy from physical and financial investments in the budding pastoral industry set along the Murray / Darling rivers system from Gol Gol Station near Mildura north to Coongoola in South East Queensland. They were breeders and suppliers of stock for South Australia's Meat Industry. Their home and businesses were focal points for expressing their inclusivity of German and English cultures in their love of dance and music, supporting each other and involvement with horse racing, gun shooting and civil activities.… (more)
