Margaret Chase Smith was born in 1897 and was the first woman to run on a major party ticket for president. When she ran it was a time when women could barely vote, let alone run for office. The book shows a timeline of her life on the bottoms of pages.
I enjoyed this book because it not only shows
In the classroom, I would use this on "this day in history" lesson about National Women's month, running for president, and unknown uncommon events in history. This book would be great to introduce to introduce a writing assignment about someone in history the student chooses.

her timeline at the bottom of the pages, but it lends a linear view of her life as you read the story. I have an interest in reading about "firsts" in history, especially in U.S. history. In the classroom, I would use this on "this day in history" lesson about National Women's month, running for president, and unknown uncommon events in history. A very cute book about the first woman to seriously make a run for the presidency of the United States. Like with all political biographies, this book spends most of its time showing what an amazing, patriotic American she was.
The book includes a great deal of detailed time-lines for easy reference
I liked the book a great deal, but I may be biased in that I love Senator Smith for her feminism and love of the Space Program.
I would recommend this book for ages 6-12.

This was probably the best part of the book because it gives the reader an excellent sense of context for the story of Margaret Chase Smith.I liked the book a great deal, but I may be biased in that I love Senator Smith for her feminism and love of the Space Program.

I honestly think this book has one of the most annoying ways of ending each page. I think they were looking for continuity, but I thought it got rather old quickly. I did like the timelines.

A good spotlight on the life of a really admirable and inspiring woman, but a little too fawning for my taste.
