While they are there Katie’s mom sees her and stops and takes her home. Her parents explain that they made the rule to protect her. Her dad takes her to the pond and tells her about when he was young and broke his parents rule and went to the pond. He fell in and almost drowned, he doesn’t want that to happen to Katie. Katie says she is sorry and that she now understands the rule. The next day her parents take the family to the pond.

Personal Reaction: This is a very cute book that teaches children that their parents make rules to protect them. The pictures are also very good.

Extension Activities:
1. Write about one time you disobeyed your parents and why they made that rule.
2. Draw a picture of what Katie and her family might do at the pond.
