Description

The men of the 77th Infantry Division couldn't fathom why Private Desmond T. Doss would venture into the horrors of World War II without a single weapon to defend himself. They called him a coward, but the soft--spoken medic insisted that his mission was to heal, not kill. Herndon shares the story of how Doss became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor.

The true story of Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector who joined the army and served as a medic with the 77th Infantry Division in World War II.

The accurate depiction of the horror of war serves as a counterpoint to the dogged determination of a man committed to serving his country while

remaining true to his religious beliefs. Desmond Doss’s story of courage and unswerving dedication will enlighten and inspire readers.

Highly recommended.

Hero of Hacksaw Ridge by Booton Herndon is based on the true story of Desmond T. Doss, Heroic War Objector and recipient of the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor.

While this book is short (126 pg.), it has a great impact. We follow Doss through his challenges of maintaining his belief in God,

therefore being a conscientious objector in World War II. He faces ridicule over his faith while never losing it.

This is definitely a book to read, but note that Doss' story is based on his faith and belief in God.
