Some accounts of this book refer to it as cartoons or comics, but it is not; it is illustrated. The pictures are realistic and, to my knowledge, as historically accurate as possible. Though I grew up on the Sunday Pix which this is an abridged compilation of, these Sunday School take-home papers

weren't available for my daughter. But this book was. My wife went through several copies of this book in reading it to my daughter. There were many conversations that came out of this book, and she also learned to read through reading this book to her. And most importantly, this book gave her a lot of knowledge of the Bible.

My only disappointment is that this edition is an abridged compilation of the Sunday School papers. The completeness of the stories was one thing that separated it from anything else like it. The black and white version, The Picture Bible for All Ages, was unabridged, but lacked the life that color gives it. I do hope that some day, the publisher will come out with an unabridged version with the colored illustrations.

excellent illustrated children's with REALISTIC people drawings and accurate historical settings (no bulging muscles a-la-Superman or cutseyness a-la-teddybear style), that both my pre-teens and 6 year olds love to read over-and-over; children will get to know most of the big bible stories very

well; excellent preparation tool before graduating to completely reading Scripture on their own as it gives a great visual context to understanding the social and physical environment

An illustrated Bible with a "comic book" format.

This interesting version of the Bible is illustrated in a comic book style that may be more appealing to our young readers. It accurately portraits the main events in the Bible; it could easily be used by adults as well.

I read "The Picture Bible" completely through when I was around twelve and enjoyed it, and I would recommend it to young adolescents, especially those who would find its comic-book/graphic novel style appealing. However, the images are becoming dated, reflecting out-of-date historical information.

Furthermore, the language about God and humankind is exclusive, and the people are unfortunately depicted entirely as Caucasian. Also, while generally the language of the text presented here is modernized (as of the 1970s), some reflects the King James Version. As I said previously, I would highly recommend it to young adolescents; however, I would only do so if there was ample opportunity to discuss some of "The Picture Bible's" shortcomings with the youth.

Yes! these are the same comic style picture Bible stories you got in those little paper booklets ("Pix") from your Sunday school teacher!

Only this is ALL of them in one binding with no "to be continued..." and no other filler stuff.

(I don't remember what all they used to put in them...crosswords

and other fill in the blank games?)
