Recounts the build up to and battle at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 1-3, 1863

Three Days, more than 50,000 casualties, and a turning point in the war. The great Battle of Gettysburg. This battle wasn’t supposed to happen actually. The confederates (southerners) were trying to get supplies, as the Union (US Troops) met up to the confederates and so they started firing at

each other. And so the Battle of Gettysburg began.
Day 1; when the Union spotted the enemy first and attacked with a small squad. The rebels held their ground and forced the Union to retreat. When the word had spread that the war was up in Gettysburg, General Robert E. Lee was on the scene, Commander of the Confederate army. He ordered scouts on horseback to search the area. Then he ordered a squad of sharp shooters to fallow the Union squad. The Union went in the houses and the sharp shooters took the windows. One women was shot in the cross fire when a bullet rebounded and hit her when she was cooking. General Lee was waiting for his scouts to return. When they got back, he was told that the Union was marching up the hills for cover.
Day 2; the Union was awake all night getting the cannons up, ammo up, men up, and digging trenches. Now they are ready for battle. When they finished, their line of defense was in the shape of a hook all across the mountains. General Lee ordered his officers to take his men in the woods and attack in the morning. When the sun was up all officers told the men to “Fix banetts!”. Finally after a long night of work they saw their enemy screaming out of the woods. The Union fired their cannons, BOOM! BANG! The rebels kept going. They reached the bottom of the hill and took cover behind the trees. “Hold fire!” said a Union officer. Then silent broke and the rebels started charging and coming up. Guns started to fire. The rebels started breaking formation, this was good news for the Union but bad news for the rebels. The Union forced the rebels out of the hills. The Union kept pounding the rebels. The far end of the Union line of the hook was a Union General who saw an advantage. But he was wrong. he pushed his line down the hill, and saw the enemy and attacked. he was way out numbered, 5 to 1. General Lee put more troops there because in his eyes it was a weaker point. So when he attacked, a Union general noticed his mistake and put reinforcements to his aid. The general noticed his mistake and retreated to the hills. It was getting dark, and Lee was coming up with a plan to take Gettysburg. His plan was to have his horse division of about 500 to come around the Union line and go behind them and attack from behind. While his troops attack in the front and both divisions will split the Union in half. His plan will be carried out tomorrow at day break.
Day 3; the Union commander of the battle suspected the move and sent his horse unit to attack the confederate horse unit. But they were way out numbered! They had 100 and they had 500. It was a very lucky that the Union had beaten the confederate. Then General Lee, unaware that his horse unit wasn’t coming, started phase 2, his line was huge! It was a mile long, they advanced towards the hills but they were unaware that the Union moved down with the cannons so when the confederates came out of the woods, BANG!! The line was getting demolished. Amazingly the rebels reached the Union line. The Union line retreated but their commander screamed “DO NOT RETREAT!!! WE STAY AND FIGHT LIKE MEN!!!!!!”, he pulled his sword out and the Union charged at the rebels. The confederates were out numbered, they were waiting for their horse unit that will never come. Swords clashing, guns shooting. It was a slaughter, the whole battle was, but the hand to hand was bloodier. A soldier quoted “This battle is a slaughter, men fighting through men. It was hell on earth it is so bloody.” General Lee saw that his horse unit wasn’t coming. His men were taking a beating. So he ordered a retreat. This battle was never Lee’s to win and most knew that, but he felt that his men were invincible so he was to proud of that so he lost.
Gettysburg. In my opinion the most historic town in America. The battle was only 3 days, and its still the bloodiest battle! Gettysburg was a major victory for the Union, This showed the rebels to never advance into northern territory. July 1st - 3rd proved to be summers bloodiest days. In the end the civil war was the most bloodiest battle America has been in.

Bang! Bang! The guns started to fire. In my book “Summer’s Bloodiest Days” written by Jennifer L. Weber; It is a very vivid historical text. It talks about the war of Gettysburg; It’s also told from different sides: the towns people, the people fighting in the war, also little round top and

devil’s den. Some of the people that were fighting for what they believe were only in their teens. Even though this book is vivid (may be disturbing for some readers) if your into history and want to learn more you should read this book.
One of the confederate armies would be Robert E. Lee’s army of Northern Virginia. No matter what kind of weather was thrown at then they would keep going through the rain, the cold, and the heat. One big thing that still wouldn’t stop them was their feet a lot of their shoes would wear through or they just didn’t have any. The most common outfit and things to bring was: a brimmed kapi, socket bayonet, knapsack, canteen, gray jack and trousers to match, cartridge box tin coffee cup, haversack, riffle, and leather shoes.
The Yankees of Union soldiers would bring: a kapi, blanket roll, frying pan, musket, wool fatigue blouse with brass buttons with matching pants, haversack, cartridge box, percussion cap box, knap sack, and leather shoes. The union men always looked more sophisticated in my eyes. The union men gone into effect 10 months before the Gettysburg address ( which was proposed by Lincoln that had freed slaves) had come “up” with a plan in his advantage.
This book is a very good book for people that like to learn about Gettysburg and war, it is also best for people that don’t mind a lot of blood. “Summer’s Bloodiest Days” is a fantastically written historical picture book.

Zzzzp, bullets fly! Booooom, cannons roar! Squish, blood is splattered in this exciting book about the battle of Gettysburg , Summer’s Bloodiest Days. A great book called Summer’s Bloodiest Days: The Battle of Gettysburg, as told from all sides was written by Jennifer L. Weber. The book was 64

pages long and published by National Geographic Children’s Books. This book is an amazing non-fiction book with many facts and pictures about the events leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg and about the battle itself. The book Summer’s Bloodiest Day’s is an action packed book because it had lots of interesting facts about the battle and about the deaths of the soldiers. It also provided lots of other good information about the legendary battle itself.
This book starts off by talking about President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, which actually happened 5 months after the battle. The book then talks about the road to Gettysburg and the events leading up to the battle. It also mentions the hardships the soldiers faced even before the battle started, like marching 20 miles a day, and carrying 50 pounds of equipment in the 95 degree sun while wearing heavy wool uniforms. Next the book discusses the three exciting days of battle, July 1, 2, and 3rd of 1863. Finally, the reader learns about the aftermath of the battle and of the terrible number of deaths.
The main important event that takes place in this book is the Battle of Gettysburg which took place July 1, 2 and 3rd in 1863 in Pennsylvania. I was mainly interested in Day one of the battle and how the Southerners actually attacked from the North, and the Northern soldiers came from south of Gettysburg. It was interesting to read that both sides didn’t necessarily want to fight at Gettysburg and what started as a smaller fight turned into a much larger battle. Gettysburg was an important battle in the American Civil War. This book was an amazing look into the battle of Gettysburg.
The author had a unique purpose when writing this book and that was to educate us about the Battle of Gettysburg, I think she achieved that goal. I liked the great details provided by the author about the Gettysburg battle. One part of the book where I think the writing influenced me is on page 10-11 where there is a paragraph about the Gettysburg Address. “Our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” This reminds me of some of the current topics we are talking about in our country today, like equality, even though it was written 125 years ago.
This book is great because it had amazing details in the writing but also because it is supported by amazing pictures. I support the author’s arguments because she remains neutral and I like some ideas from both sides in the war, North and South. This book is interesting to me because of the great details and because it went into a lot of depth about my favorite battle of the Civil War. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the American Civil War, or who likes the Battle of Gettysburg. I would give this book a 9 out of 10 stars. It loses one star for me because the book is so short, if it was longer it would get that 10th star!
Summers Bloodiest Day’s was a great book, and it left a great impression on me. The book makes me want to find more books about the American Civil War so I can learn about other battles, soldiers, generals and the people back at home. I hope by sharing information about this book others will want to check out the book as well.

“Boom!” Another one dies on the battlefield, and they’ll keep on dying until the last survival. The book “Summer’s Bloodiest Day’s, The Battle Of Gettysburg As Told From all points of views” is educational and inspiring. Clearly, the United
Show More
States wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for the people who risk their lives in the bloodiest war.
The author’s main topic is that she wanted to inform you on how the United States came to be if it wasn’t for the Civil War. She wanted to make a point that, soldiers does a lot to keep our country safe and fully functioning. This book covers July 1-4, 1863 on how it all began to, the ending of the war. There are little events that lead to the biggest one called “The Battle Of Gettysburg.” The author achieved her purpose because the book is formatted easily to find data and her information is highly accurate.
It all started in June 1, 1863 in Gettysburg; when both Generals went to what’s known as, the bloodiest and most disturbing war in the North American continent. The rivals, General George supported the Union (North) while Robert E. Lee supported the Confederates (South). The North and the South oppose in many topics such as high tariff, slavery, and industry against agriculture! They both have been planning this war for awhile and hiked towards their destination, Gettysburg. The Union had a hard time with their army because they didn’t have a lot of skill, low ammunition, and wasn’t prepared (clothes wise). Although they did have strategy that lead them to their victory. They separated in to multiple paths and were going to meet up to their destination, countering every side of the Confederate army. That was a good start of the war for them but, the Confederates had powerful guns and were equip with aid kits, shoes, and armor; a lot of things the Union did not have. But later on, they hold their ground and attacked when the Confederates were out of ammo, tired, or caught off guard. On July 4th, 1863 their “months” journey turned into a “3 day” journey and they took this victory.
I would recommend this book to people who like short, historical fiction books with specific data. This book left me thinking how life would be like if the Civil War never occurred. This is a very fascinating book in many points of views starting with the General to a nurse in a busy hospital. It has an easy format to read that contains lots of data supported with evidence based on how the Civil War all started.

summers bloodiest days it talks all about people and .ect but my favorite story /person was general sickles; he lead a small army with good tactics. His story is when he was fighting to defend territory someone loaded a cannon ball in cannon and shot it at general sickles. His leg bone shattered in 6 pieces and they could not repair it so they just took a saw and cut it right off but general sickles put the leg with the exact same cannon ball that shot his leg off and put it in a box and attached to the box was a card that red ‘with the completes of general sickles we send you the generals leg to put up on display for meanny to see and share the news with frends and family. And they sent it to the museum of medical injuries there they try new ways to fix bones and study injuries and attached to it was a small card reading “with my friends I humbly send you my leg that had gotten shot off with a cannon ball. And they took the leg and the cannon ball and put it on display for Meany to see but on every year the anniversary of the leg being blown off he invites friends and family to go see the leg and he would mostly invite girls;] over all I think the book out of 100 id give it a 95. But it was a great book you just couldn’t put it down.
there is allot more to this story and almost 20 others stories and facts and so go to your near your closest book store and pick up summers bloodiest days. Trust me you won’t regret it.

SUMMER’S BLOODIEST DAYS

Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war. The book Summers Bloodiest Days is a nonfiction book by Jennifer Weber. The battle was the most intense battle of the civil war. The book was great because, it told both sides of the story, and it had great
Show More
firsthand knowledge from the battle itself, such as great quotes and pictures.

The setting of the story was in Gettysburg. The author told about the three days in the battle of Gettysburg. The major character from the start is Robert Lee the confederate leader. He was a great leader and guided the south through all of their battles. Even though the south was defeated he was still a very great leader throughout the war. The north even wanted to have him as a general for their side. He knew he could only fight for the south because he was born there.

The book starts off talking about the confederate’s trip to Gettysburg. They were going to Gettysburg for shoes. One man on the confederate side said ‘’my feet hurt me very much!’’. The confederates ran into the union and a three day battle took place. Many people died and there were many interesting stories. One story even told of a 70 year old man fighting! But you will have to read the book to hear about all of the other interesting stories of the battle of Gettysburg. The battle was one of the bloodiest though. Over 135,000 people died. The battle of Gettysburg was the one of the most important battles of the civil war. A union leader even said ‘’Good god if I lose Gettysburg, I am lost’’.

I thought the strengths of the book were its great use of details such as the story of a captain whose leg was put in a museum! I thought the only weakness the book had was it was too short. I at the end of the book I really wanted to keep reading. I think the author really did well in telling both sides of the war equally. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the civil war. I probably give the book nine stars out of ten.

So you know that I really liked the book and its details. At the end of the book I wanted to read even more about the war. So I think you should give the book a try if you are a really in to learning about the civil war.

War. Some of the important events are the War of Getty’s Berg. The war of Getty’s Berg was one of the bloodiest battles ever in American history also all of the little stories from the book about the generals and commanders.
My book was a non-fiction and it was put together very well with the small stories on the sides. One of the stories that stood out to me is the one about the guy getting shot with the cannon and it showed his bone and what it did to him, also his bone is in a museum.
I think she did achieve her goal of the book it was kind of good and I loved all of the pictures. The writing makes you feel like you were in the war with all of the solders and the generals. I think the strengths of this book are all of the little stories and the pictures. I think this book was interesting in some way and dull in others. I would recommend this book to guys that like war books and people interested about Getty’s Berg. I would give this book a 7/10.
I liked this book and it left me feeling like I was in Getty’s Berg with all of the guys and women that were there. It also left me with lots of more knowledge about Getty’s Berg. This book was great I think people should read this book it was interesting.

This book review is about the book summer’s bloodiest days the author of this book is Jenifer l. Wigger. This book is a non-fiction book. I’d recommend this book to only ages 10+ because it has a lot of blood and violence being described at least.
The book summer’s bloodiest days tells about

the civil war and what happened in Gettysburg and how the war was won from both sides north (union) and south (confederate). The leaders of these two sides thought that it was necessary to fight this war. The north thought that the slaves should be free and the south thought that they should keep their slaves. The author did show how the war turned out for the north and south so she did indeed achieve her purpose. There are pretty obvious strengths and weaknesses with this book like how she put in all of the details of what both sides used/carried and what type of cannons were used that is a strength. There is a weakness as well the fact it wasn’t long enough or long in general.
In this book it tells the events of the civil war in random order. Like how it told about the battle of Gettysburg then it went on to the battle of little round top where the confederates sneaks up there but that would never have happened if general sickles didn't move his troops off of it. When I got to the end of the book I went on Google and looked up if there is another book like it (that means I enjoyed the book).

book has some interesting facts about famous generals and battles.

Each one of the pages has some side facts about thrilling details. I believe the author’s purpose was to inform readers in a fun and exciting way. She bolds words that stand out in order to reach a certain purpose. The writing is intriguing and precise. Some battle terms are used and described at the bottom of each page. Detailed pictures are one of the strengths of this book. I couldn’t find many weaknesses besides I could’ve enjoyed more pictures and side notes! This author told straight facts and not many opinions if any at all. Overall, this book would entertain many war savvy and people who like straight facts. I would recommend this book to anyone who is open to learning something from the civil war. This book brings opportunities and interesting facts that some might find cool. 8 out of 10 stars, for this book.

This book left me with knowledge about the civil war. I enjoyed this book immensely for its cunning detail to pictures and facts. For example giving types of weapons used in the civil war and the bloody pictures. This is a good read for anyone who likes to learn military strategies or cool pictures.

The time period that was covered in this book was in June 1863. There is one main important event in this book the Civil War. The author’s topic is the Battle of Gettysburg. Some of the main points are when Abraham Lincoln gave his important speech.
This book is basically about the sided country of America. This all started during slavery. The south side of America (also known as confederate) didn’t want slavery o end because it was easy to make profit. The north side (union) opposed slavery. They thought it was not fair for slaves. So the confederates went to war with the union and fought against slavery. The book also talked about all the weapons and everything they went through. Like weather , and food.
The author did achieve her purpose. The writing is effective. I thought this book was interesting and moving. I would recommend this book to others that like details about the Civil War. If I had to rank this book out of ten it would be a 7.
This book made my impression happy. It left a smile on my face. This book is very recommended to war type people . Also excited about details.

The time period is in the 1800’s during the Civil War times. Some events that were important included Pickett’s Charge and The Gettysburg Address.

One very highly stood out event was Pickett’s Charge. It had a full chapter about the time of it. A summarization? It pretty much gives you loads of information on the most important events during the Civil War.

The author did achieve her purpose. Her writing was very effective and powerful. I agreed with her arguments and conclusions. They made me feel excited as they went on, as the action during each event. My overall response is that this book is that it was very moving and interesting. I recommend to others, especially if they love to learn. I do because it has so much information in it. I would give it a 9/10.
