It is an alphabet book. It starts and ends with rhyming passages that are very good for young students. The pictures are very captivating and fun for all ages.

Girl goes to market on Market Street and sees lots of things. Each item she buys relates to a different letter of the alphabet. After shopping all day she came home and gave them all to a friend.

Most of the time readers enjoy books because of the stories they tell or by the way the author tell it. Instead this book focuses on the importance of pictures. Each page represents a letter of the alphabet and one object that starts with that letter. Instead of just showing one apple, the

illustrator designs the whole picture with everything made of apples. This book could easily be used to teach students about the alphabet, but it can go beyond that. This book encourages children to look past the literally meaning of things. It helps them be creative like this illustrator is with his pictures. Why just show one apple when you can use a ton of apples to be different things!

This is an alphabet book about all of the items purchased on market street, ranging from A to Z. The illustrations are creative with merchants dressed in the items that the character buys. One thinks that the character is buying the items for himself, but you learn in the end that they are all for

a friend. The message in the book is good, expressing how good it feels to buy things for others. This is a good book for students learning the letters.

Ok, it's a kids book, but Arnold Lobel wrote one of my very favorite kids books ("Uncle Elephant") so I couldn't resist picking up a used copy, even if it is missing the dust jacket!

I had read it was about the alphabet but I had forgotten over the weekend and once I opened it it was quite a pleasant surprise as well as for my daughter - we read it twice before returning it to the Library on the next day.

This book was great to read for many reasons! First, the setup of the book is fun and very eye catching. The book is an alphabet book and is about a boy who goes to Market Street to buy various things. For example, the boy buys clocks, and kites, and musical instruments. Second, the illustrations

in the book are humorous. For example, the illustrator drew each object the boy bought at Market Street as a person so when the boy bought books, the illustration showed a man made out of books. I believe the overall message of the book is to inform readers about the alphabet in a fun and eye catching way!

Here is a world of wonders, from A to Z. Inspired by seventeenth-century French trade engravings, Anita Lobel's brilliant paintings of the shopkeepers on Market Street—each composed of his or her wares—will provide blissful hours for all who join the Lobels on an unforgettable shopping spree.

"In a delightful and unusual book, a boy trots down Market Street buying presents for a friend, each one starting with a letter of the alphabet. Every letter is illustrated by a figure ingeniously composed of, for instance, apples or wigs or quilts. The notion is original, and the sum total enjoyable and unique."—The Horn Book

I feel as though there should be more words used for the "incredible" illustrated books that I find. This is a story of what can be found at a beautiful outdoor market.

The images drew me in, and when finished, I realized I spent a lot of time looking at the highly talented images of Anita Lobel.

She and her husband Arthur Lobel are an award-wining team. He writes, and she illustrates.

I finished this book, in a mesmerized state, then went back and read in two more times, carefully examining each highly creative image.
