“When a town mouse and a city mouse exchange visits, they discover that they prefer very different ways of life.” I liked this book for 2 reasons. One reasons is that the language of this book is very descriptive with a lot of imagery. This is one example of imagery, “In the elegant dining

room lamplight gleamed on silver and fine glass, on scarlet drapery and dining couches inlaid with ivory.” I was able to envision the grandness of the room with this description, which showed that the author did not rely on the illustrations to describe the setting. I also enjoyed this book for the tension in the plot which was first created when the characters were introduced. For example, the country mouse was insecure and seemed to feel inadequate when the city mouse was his guest for dinner which is an event or feeling that many people have encountered. Again, the author created tension and suspense when the mice scurried away as vicious dogs chased after them. The author wrote, “Breathless with fear the mice dodged through the garden.”
After facing this conflict the country mouse realizes how much he truly appreciates his simple life in the city. The message was the third reason why I really enjoyed this book. The author embraces the idea that everyone is unique and that we all find satisfaction in different aspects of life.
