I started reading this story to my siblings just over two years ago. Unfortunately, I think they’ve gotten beyond the right age for this kind of story, since most of them weren’t that interested in the book. In saying that, though, anytime I did pick it up and read a chapter, they’d ask me to
I found it fascinating, although it is obviously aimed at the age 8-12 market. I haven’t learned a lot about Lottie Moon’s life over the years, so getting to see a bit of her life story here was fascinating. I could also understand the struggles to two main characters in the story faced as they tried to figure out what the Lord’s will for their lives was—and eventually surrender to that, rather than fight for their own ideas and plans.
If you want to introduce your children to Lottie Moon and her ministry, this would be a great starting place. It has enough adventure to keep you interested in the story, and while it deals with part of the Boxer Rebellion, it isn’t overly graphic, which I appreciated. A good read!
