move in to look after Ruby Day. When Ruby's Aunt shows up to escort her to back to Philadelphia to a hospital for the feebleminded, she finds out how determined a town is to save one of their own.

I enjoyed this novel for several reasons. I like to see strong female characters who are both likeable and believable. The religious aspect of the novel was meaningful without being to 'in your face.'

While I understand the 'small town' atmosphere written into the storyline, somehow the southern dialect didn't work for me. It seemed a little stereotypical instead of coming off genuine for the characters. However, it was wasn't enough to distract from the overall message.

Fantastic book! The main character is a strong 13 yr old girl. This book brings together coming of age with very difficult decisions. Poignant. Amazing book!!
