Description

Mary Jo is a very shy little girl. When it comes time to share something in class she has nothing to share. She comes up with several ideas of what to share, but at the last minute says she has nothing to share. In the end she is able to find the perfect thing to share. It is something that no one else in the class has thought of sharing before.

This is a very applicable story for many young children who participate in sharing time in their classroom. They will be able to connect their real-life experiences with what Mary Jo experienced in the book.

What Mary Jo shared is a book that is very encouraging. This book teaches a lesson of diligence. Although May Jo constantly did not succeed at finding something to share she continued until she did. This was very encouraging as well because it teaches and encourages students that are shy as well

that it is okay to step out of your comfort zone sometimes. This book also teaches a lesson about sharing. It is good to share because you can teach other people something new. For example, she talked about her father and what he did when he was a little boy. Some of the students in the story may have never been exposed to and African American on a more intimate level. Overall, I enjoyed and liked this book. I think that is a good book to have in a classroom and use when introducing show and share or when trying to get a child to step outside of their comfort zone. We see in the book that nothing beats a failure until you try. Once Mary Jo talked in front of the class she might determine that she likes it and that its not so scary to do after all. This book is one that I really like based on the lessons taught.
