This is a informational/ historical fiction book about how pancakes are made. This is informational because it is showing how something is made step by step and someone could follow the directions and actually make the pancakes. I would use this for the primary grades. I would use this to show how
Show More
to make pancakes, and listen to directions. The main character is the boy who wants the pancakes. We don't know much about him so he is a flat character.

This is a great instructional book. It talks about everything you need to make a pancake and where each ingredient comes from (ex: egg from hen). This book teaches students how pancakes are made. It would be a cute lesson to read this book to students and then to actually make each child a pancake.

This could be a very hands on lesson for measuring out ingredients (math), etc. I think this would be a fun book to read students and they would love to listen to it. The illustrations are very colorful and exciting to look at.

This book would be good for 2nd or 3rd grade. It is a little boring, but teaches hard work. It would be good to send a recipe home to the parents and encourage them to let the student help make a giant pancake before or after reading this book.

I would use this book for 2nd and 3rd graders. It shows all the steps is takes into making a pancake. It shows how directions have to be followed and where ingredients come from. You could do an activity that involved following directions when reading this book.

Jack wakes up and wants a pancake for breakfast. His mom is too busy so she asks for his help. she has him gather the grain, turn it to flour, milk the cow, collect an egg, etc. She then cooks the pancake for Jack and he enjoys the pancake. This book did not have much of a storyline but I enjoyed
Show More
the book because it reminds me of my father. I would probably have this in my library but only if I happened to come across it while I was buying books.

Jack really wanted some pancakes. His mother offered to make them for him, but first she needed all the ingredients and supplies. Jack must gather grain to make flour, collect eggs from the chicken coup, get milk from the cow, churn butter, gather firewood, and pick out a topping! Whew! That's a

lot of work! But, once Jack's mother prepares the pancakes.... he knows just what to do: Eat them!

Pancakes,Pancakes! is a very educational book. It teaches children how to make pancakes, and who does not love pancakes! During the story, the boy ask his mother for pancakes and she sends him on a long trip to gather all the supplies he needs to make his pancakes. After he gathers everything the
Show More
mother sets all the supples out and allows his make the pancakes. This story shows that if you want something to you need make sure you have all the supplies and you are ready to help make what you want. This story also saw the different jobs used, an example: the boys goes to a miller, someone who breaks down wheat. This is allowing children to understand the different jobs out in the world and how they are done. A teacher could be really nice and allow pancakes one day after reading this story or she could allow students to bring in their favorite recipe and discuss with the class what makes it so good. Allrecipes.com has a pancake recipe from scratch and if you good to foodnetwork.com they have almost every recipe ever. Both the websites could be beneficial to helping children understanding cooking and learn about their fellow classmates favorite good.

A great book to read to children in grades K-2. The book has great pictures and can include several learning experiences while reading. With your class, you could incorporatee math by adding the ingredients to make pancakes of different kinds such as: plain, blueberry, chocolate chip, banana, etc.

This book shows great pictures and is similar to The Very Hungry Catepillar.

I thought it was interesting how the author put the process of milling grain into the story without making the information seem boring. Then the process of making a pancake really made me appreciate how easy it is nowadays to go to the store to buy what we need. I feel that a lesson for kids could
Show More
come from this.

A wee bit long for storytime, a boy wants pancakes for breakfast but he must accomplish all the tasks to make pancakes first, grind the wheat, milk the cow, churn the butter. In the end he gets yummy pancakes.

This is a cute book, but some of it is too advanced for a 24 month old. The wordless, "Pancakes for Breakfast" is better.

This is a book about a boy in some gone time who runs all around to make a pancake (just one?) for breakfast. His mother tells him what to do every step of the way - he has to cut, thresh, and mill the wheat; he must feed the chicken and get an egg; he must milk a cow and churn the cream; and then

it's all mixed together to make a pancake. There's no mention of baking powder or baking soda, so I'm guessing this takes place before the Civil War.

This not one of the books by Eric Carle that has simple text and is suited for preschoolers. This is one of his longer, more detailed books for older children. Do not expect your baby to get much out of it. Your kindergartener, though, may be totally fascinated at the effort it takes to make a single breakfast!

Eric Carle’s Pancakes, Pancakes! Is a book that transforms the gathering of wheat, an egg, milk, butter, and a fire into a saga for Jack our Hero.

Retelling: Jack wanted a pancake for breakfast, but he had to start from scratch. This book follows the making of Jack's pancake from grain, milk, butter, and eggs to mixing, stirring and frying.

Thoughts and Feelings: I feel oddly comforted knowing where my food comes from.

Jack wakes up for and immediately tells his mother he wants pancakes for breakfast! His mom is busy, so she has him help by harvesting wheat for flour, gathering eggs from the chickens, milking cows, churning butter, chopping some firewood, and getting some jam. His job was to get all of the
Show More
ingredients together and to mix them, making the pancake batter. Throughout this book it teaches sequential order and could be used to a how to book for making pancakes. I enjoyed that the setting and time of the book was not placed in a modern day society because it gives the reader an idea of how pancakes were made in the past. If I were to read this book aloud, I would bring in mini pancakes and different flavors of jam to have my students eat after we read the story aloud. The students would be able to eat the pancakes while completing an assignment, which could be writing their own mini how to book on how to prepare a certain food.
